Trevor Millum
Marjorie Ferguson
When researching into facial expressions I cam across I came across
two individuals who identified different style I could have my model
so
Trevor Millum identified when conducting a study into women's
magazines, the male facial expressions.
• Carefree
• Practical
• Seductive
• Comic
• catalogue
• Often smiling or grinning
• Active
• Vibrant
Usually linked to sports as it gives
and active and healthy look
• Concentrating
• Mouth closed
• Sometimes a slight frown
• Engaged on the business at
hand
This will include a model who
seems to be concentrating on
something, so their eyes will be
focused whilst their mouth will
be closed.
• Eyes less wide
• Less reserved but still self-
sufficient and confident
• Slight smile
When a model is posing in the
seductive look they should have
their eyes slightly closed, the
expressions will be small, but will still
show through, the will also aim to
look confident.
• Deliberately ridiculous
• Exaggerated
• Pulling faces for the benefit of
the viewer
• Natural look
• Artificial
• No personality
• Eyes most likely open wide and
smile but remains vacant
• Wax like
Will make the model have their eyes
open, with a big smile as if they are
not stupid but rather dumb.
Marjorie Ferguson studied the types of facial expressions of
women in cover photos. She identified these four types
• Chocolate box
• Invitational
• Super-smiler
• Romantic or sexual
• Half or full smile
• Lips together or slightly parted
• Teeth barely visible
• Full or three quarter fact to camera
• Emphasis on the eyes
• Mouth shut or with only a hint of smile
• Head to one side or looking back on the
camera
• Full face
• Wide open toothy smile
• Head thrust forward or chin thrown back
• Hair often wind blown
• Male and female (couples)
• Overly sensual or sexual
