2. Learning
Because we are committed to equipping the entire body
and because learning is one our core values, we will
evaluate our current Sunday School classes to assess the
benefit they provide to the body, will propose core and
elective classes that will be taught on a rotating basis, and
will promote Sunday School at 9:30 Sunday morning as the
main learning time of the church in 2013.
4. Passages to Consider
Acts 2:42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’
teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the
prayers. [Attitude]
Acts 20:26 Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of
the blood of all, 27 for I did not shrink from declaring to you the
whole counsel of God. [Responsibility and Scope]
Matt. 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and
of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have
commanded you.[Purpose and Scope]
5. Role of the Pulpit Ministry
•Purpose - Feeding
toward spiritual
Pulpit Ministry transformation and
worship.
•Process - Selective
•Purpose - Equipping
Church toward biblical thinking
Education and ministry
•Process - Systematic
6. Role of Pulpit Ministry
• The pulpit ministry is a key element in
learning, but is insufficient by itself.
• Insufficient in its scope
• Insufficient in its purpose
• Insufficient in its structure
7. How Are We Doing?
• A noble history
• An overburdened ministry structure
• A mix of purposes
• An unguided and unsupervised ministry
structure
8. Why Pastoral Oversight?
• Because our learning time is as much a
ministry of the Word as the pulpit
ministry.
• Because pastors are commanded to
oversee the ministry of the Word.
• Because pastors will give an account of
their leadership in the church.
9. What would a systematic
church education look like?
• An allotted time slot
• A set rotation of core information
• A changing rotation of electives
10. How do we begin the process?
• Sensitive to the needs of established
classes experiencing high levels of care
• Establishment of core and elective plan
• Utilizing existing and new teachers
• 2013 learning goal is one of integration
