1. Factors Affecting the Distribution
of Biomes
L/O: to understand three factors which
affect climate
Starter: Name 3 biomes.
2. Latitude
Larger area = Less heat
Sunlight
Earth Sun
Smaller area = More heat
3. Proximity to the Sea
Summer • Wind is warmed up because the land
heats the air above.
• Wind is cooled down because the sea • It does not pick up much moisture.
cannot keep the air warm because it is
cold.
• It picks up a little moisture because less
evaporation takes place in colder water.
Sea is cold because it has
cooled down during
winter. Place X is cold Place Y is
and wet. warm and
dry.
Land is warm because
land heats quicker than
water.
4. Winter
• Wind cools down because the land
is cold and so can’t heat the air.
• No moisture is picked up.
• Wind warms up because the sea
warms the air.
• It picks up lots of moisture because
warm water evaporates easier.
Sea is warm because it has been
heated during Summer and stores
the heat for a longer time than Place X is
land. warm and Place Y is
very wet. cold and dry.
Land is cold because it doesn’t
store heat for very long.
