OUR DEAR DEPARTED QUEEN
Across Hadley Wood, people were engaged with the sad death of Queen Elizabeth II through to the magniļ¬cent and moving
Funeral service and procession. One of the most moving was the long slow walk of so many people to the Lying in State in
Westminster Hall. The constant television allowed us some share of the experience, sharpened by the sight of local residents.
May she rest in peace with our heartfelt thanks for her reign. Long live King Charles III.
HADLEY WOOD HISTORY
A group of people are getting together to produce a new History of Hadley Wood. Anyone willing to contribute, please contact
us through HWA. The current concept is to build this around sections on each of the community groups. Pat Taylor and John
Leatherdale recently completed the book celebrating the Centenary of Hadley Wood Golf Club. Tennis was founded in 1890.
Several local groups, including Hadley Wood Assocation, have already passed 50 years. Some are fond memories
(eg Horticultural Society). Some already have some anniversary record. Others deserve their own histories.
We can weave these together with our living history to make our Story of Hadley Wood.
HWA AGM TUESDAY 22 NOVEMBER
This year we have some important formal business including the appointment of a new Trustee (see below). We shall be
presenting a report of our very busy year with our draft accounts. We shall be seeking support for our Centre Upgrade
plans a with its Appeal.
We also intend to repeat our pre-Covid AGM opened up to involve other community groups, clubs and institutions,
providing information and involvement, bringing us together.
We invite short written papers to publish along with the HWA report and will liaise to arrange some short introductions
or even presentations. Please contact us through the HWA oļ¬ce.
