Worked with CloudStack since 2.2.13
Specialising in deployment of CloudStack
and surrounding infrastructure
Orange, TomTom, PaddyPower, Ascenty, BSkyB
I view CloudStack from ‘What can cloud
consumers practically do with it’ point-of-view

What’s New in Apache CloudStack 4.5
4. Summary:
Bind9 or PowerDNS
new Network Service Provider called GloboDNS
new Network Element to manage network domains and VM records
(entries) on an external API
new Network Resource to communicate with GloboDNS (open
source)
new API command to add DNS server
new global option to determine if this provider should override VM
entries on external DNS server
changes in UI to include GloboDNS in Providers list
Integration with External DNS
5. Support for LXC ‘hosts’ on RHEL 7.
NFS, local storage and RBD (Ceph) is supported for Primary storage.
Beware, unavailable features:
Console access
Live migration
Migration across clusters
Storage migration
Snapshots
Uploading and downloading volumes
Template creation from ROOT volume
ISO support for creating VM
Linux Containers
6. 64 bit dom0 removes the limitations of Linux low memory and allows the use of modern
drivers and works better with modern servers
The move to a 3.10 kernel from kernel.org means the kernel is no longer a completely
custom kernel
The move to the Xen Project hypervisor 4.4 is the most stable version of the core hypervisor
available.
Updated OVS to 2.10 virtual switch giving improved network stability when the virtual switch
is under pressure.
A thread per vif model was introduced to better ensure network hogs didn't impact adjacent
VM performance
Network datapath optimizations can drive line rate for 10Gbps NICs, and close to line level
with 40Gbps NICs.
Storage improvement through an update to tapdisk3. Delivering very significant
improvements in aggregate disk throughput

XenServer 6.5 support
7. Multiple SolidFire SANs supported in a single CS Cloud
Add Primary Storage based on SF Plug-in via GUI
Shared-IOPS Plug-in
Resize Volume (IOPS and Size) - (KVM limited to modifying IOPS only)
Enhanced SolidFire integration
8. Enables single sign-on and single sign-off across
multiple applications
SAML 2.0 Integration
9. The Nuage Networks™ Virtualized Services Platform (VSP) is a Software-Defined Networking
solution that virtualizes any datacentre. It deploys the full range of L2-L4 networking services on a
per-tenant or per-application basis using overlay technologies.
Network isolation and routing is handled by the Nuage SDN solution.
Routing of the packets happen at hypervisor itself. Virtual Router is not used for routing the
packets.
NuageVsp plugin supports the following network model / service combinations:
Advanced Isolated networks
DHCP
Static NAT
Source NAT
Firewall
VPC network mode:
DHCP
Static NAT
Source NAT
Network ACL
Nuage Networks Plugin
10. Adds improved support for XenServer VDI deployments
GPU-passthrough or vGPU support
Supports up to 96 vGPU accelerated VMs (XenServer 6.5)
Requires NVIDIA GRID Kepler 1 and 2 series
vGPU Enhancements
11. A new plug-in enables automatic VLAN programming on a physical
switch to which baremetal instances are connected. In an Advanced
zone, Baremetal instances gain VLAN isolation
Baremetal As a Service works in conjunction with a physical switch
either from vendor's SDK or from an in-switch agent for white box
switch.
Advanced Networking in Baremetal
12. ShapeBlue (Brasil) have tested MySQL 5.6.21 including
in a Master-Master (asynchronous) configuration
Tested against MySQL 5.6.22
cloudstack-setup-databases throws an error
MySQL 5.6 (RHEL 7)
Editor's Notes
Source Jira as of 10th Feb
Note: GloboDNS processes the files on your own machine and then transfer the desired files already modified through rsync to the bind server
For instance sciencelogic EM7 supports SSO as does Cloudian HyperStore
The Virtual Router VM is spawned only for Password reset functionality
