2. Composition
• This assembly is designed for easy and safe
connection to operative parts or equipments.
• A printing next to each socket represents the
inputs/outputs.
• Various LED give information on the
operation or the status of the PLC inputs and
outputs.
• A socket for simulation plugged in parallel to
the inputs allows testing of a program or an
application without operative part.

8. Gatwick, the UK’s second largest airport, is the busiest single-runway
airport in the world. With more than 660 aircraft movements daily, the
efficiency of all aircraft fuelling systems is critical. Gatwick Airport
Storage and Hydrant Company (GASHCo) was faced with the critical
challenge of maintaining a constant hydrant pressure of 7.5 to 9 bar.
The pressure of the fuelling pumps, however, is directly affected by the
number of aircraft being fuelled simultaneously. If the pressure in the
fuelling pumps drops, flights are delayed.
The Challenge :
Terms of maintaining the flow of fuel through the transformation and
with multiple aircraft require to supply fuel at one time, the response
caused by electrical noise affects the control of the pump. System has
been successfully upgraded.
The Solution :
Twelve pumps feed a common hydrant header and each pump has an
inline flow meter. And improve the flow signals but also eliminate the
responses caused by noise and mechanical stiction.
9. The Benefits
Improved operator efficiency and safety :
Abolished the need for the operations team to visit the equipment room
to hold the sequence of the pump and manual control changes.
Minimal disruption to operations :
During the transition, there was no supply of fuel for aircraft
interruption is due to the careful preparation and planning as well as
easy-to-use programming environment M340
Greater system reliability :
By upgrading to M340 , GASHCo can for now collect and provide signals
that can be relied upon.

11. New Zealand is home to world leading innovators such as start-up firm
Revolution Fibers that manufactures nanofibers (microscopically-
thin strands of material with a wide variety of applications ).
The Challenge :
Nanofibres are created in a process called electro-spinning. The raw
material used varies according to the end user’s application.
Production demands extremely precise parameters in terms of
temperature, humidity control and voltage, as well as in-feed and out-
feed speeds of the different substrates or fibres.
The Solution :
Auckland’s NZ Controls, a local specialist system integrator and
Schneider Electric Alliance Partner, was commissioned to design and
install the control system. They also brought additional layers of
expertise to the project in the form of Schneider Electric’s training
and support services.

13. The Vindhyachal Thermal Power Station, is owned and operated by
National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), India’s largest power
company. Vindhyachal is one of the largest power stations in the country,
with an installed capacity of 3,760 MW.
The Challenge :
NTPC sought to upgrade the existing operating system because of the
obsolescence of its existing L&T I/O cards and the lack of support. An
upgrade was essential because a failure could impact the entire power
plant which continuously feeds four units of 500 MW each.
14. The Solution :
NTPC engaged Schneider Electric to implement a solution. The existing
L&T I/Os were replaced with Quantum I/Os after assuring a mechanical fit
in the existing panel as well as:
Mapping over 1000 I/Os with the existing Quantum CPUs done with
new
addresses
Corresponding addressing modified in SCADA
Supplied I/Os were pre-wired at I/O end using multi-core cables
Onsite alterations included :
1. Cabling both power & control : Old cables were removed and replaced
with 20 core armoured cables for I/Os and coaxial cables for control .
2. HMI screens : Modifications to the screens according to the new address
references
3. Control loops: The control loops were reconfigured to make redundant
architecture and communication with the SCADA stations.
4. Redundancy: Redundant configuration was achieved with new I/O
family
