1) Applications – a set of many instructions that is
compiled into one file to be run by the
computer.
2) Utility – a small simple program that is written to
do a task.
3) Service or Daemon – a program that runs
automatically by itself when a computer is run
and does its work without any user interaction.

computer to do?
A computer can be programmed to do virtually
anything with the right tools it needs to do the
task. Examples are:
1) To play music
2) To do mathematical calculations
3) To draw objects
4) To control machines
