The existence of a large number of wireless standards motivates the investigation of a multi-standard wireless receiver architecture that uses the same hardware to meet performance requirements. This paper presents an architecture of a reconfigurable receiver operating at both Low-IF and Zero-IF modes for GSM-1800 and UMTS-2100 wireless standards. The reconfigurability in the RF front-end part is achieved by a reconfigurable filter based on a dual mode resonator with the possibility of using MEMS switches to tune the center frequency and the bandwidth of the preselector filter. System-level analysis and derivation of block-level specification for the specified standards are developed to design the receiver. Simulation results of both system-level analysis of the reconfigurable receiver and circuit design of the reconfigurable filter are presented and discussed. Simulation results indicate that the designed receiver meets the minimum requirements specified in GSM-1800 and UMTS-2100 wireless standards with a good margin.

This work is mainly to ensure the reliability of low power low noise amplifier design and analysis which is useful for 4G receiver front ends in particularly WIMAX applications. The low noise amplifiers implemented by using different topologies namely (a) Cascoded Common source amplifier technique(b) Folded Cascode amplifier technique (c) Shunt feedback amplifier technique (d) Current reuse Common gate amplifier with gm boosted technique with 90 nm TSMC CMOS technology, which is used for WIMAX applications with 1V supply. In order to simulate and measurement the parameters such as Scattering parameters(S21, S12 S11. S22 ),noise-figure, input matching, output matching ,stability, linearity the Cadence ,Agilent technologies ADS and lab view graphical software have been used and Compare the performance of the various parameters .

CYBERINTELLIGENTS
The demand for portability has speeded up the design of low-power electronic communication devices. Variable gain amplifier (VGA) is one of the most vulnerable elements of every modern receiver for the proper baseband processing of the signal. CMOS VGAs are generally suffered from low bandwidth and small gain range. In this research, a two-stage class AB VGA, each stage comprising of a direct transconductance amplifier and a linear transimpedance amplifier, is designed in Silterra 0.13-μm CMOS utilizing Mentor Graphics environment. The post-layout simulation results reveal that the VGA design achieves the widest bandwidth of >200 MHz and high gain range from -33 to 32 dB. The VGA dissipates only 2mW from a single 1.2 V DC supply. The core chip area of the VGA is also only 0.026 mm2 which is also the lowest compared to recent researches. Such a VGA will be a very useful module for all modern communication devices.

The ICES Symposium “Effects of fishing on benthic fauna, habitat and ecosystem function” took place in Tromsø, Norway from 16-19th June 2014. Abstract: Beam trawling causes physical disruption to the seafloor through physical contact of the gear components on the sediment and the resuspension of sediment into the water column in the turbulent wake of the gear. Recently Dutch beam trawlers have replaced tickler chains by electrodes as alternative stimulation for catching flatfish. It is claimed that benthic impacts are reduced. Here we report on trials in a medium sand fishing ground to compare the physical impact of a conventional 4m commercial tickler chain beam trawl with that of the new commercial “Delmeco” pulse trawl. We use a Kongsberg EM2040 multibeam echo sounder (MBES) to measure the extent to which the beam trawls modify the topography of the substrate and a particle size analyser (LISST 100X) to measure the concentration and particle size distribution of the sediment mobilized into the water column. MBES measurements reveal that the disturbed sediment in the trawl track was on average located at a centimetre deeper after trawling of the conventional beam trawl than after pulse trawling. Particle size distributions of the sediment plumes were measured at 25m, 45m and 65m behind the gear and did not reveal any differences in concentrations between the two trawls. Whereas the empirical data serve comparative purposes, their lack of predictive capacity limits extrapolation to fleet level. Finite element (FE) models have shown to overcome this for otter trawls by predicting the penetration depth and sediment displacement associated with each gear component in different sediment types. In this study, FE models were developed for the conventional tickler chain beam trawl and the pulse trawl. Predictions were validated by results obtained during sea trials. As such, this study attempts to provide the basis for future predictions of physical impacts of beam trawling and its technical advances on a larger spatial scale.
