4. Gary Ray Bowles was
arrested days later at the
local Day Laborer program,
seeking work.
During his confession, he
claimed to have “just
snapped”

Born in Virginia, 1962
Mother remarried after father’s death;
happy early childhood
Began being abused by step-father
around 7 or 8
Mother divorced, and remaried
6. 2nd step-father worse.
Drank, beat mother (hospitalized her
twice), and beat Bowles & brother
Around 10, Bowles began sniffing glue
and paint
Step-father’s anger and abuse escalated
along with son’s hatred
7. When he was 13, Bowles and his brother
attacked and savagely beat the step-
father - even picking up a rock to
pummel his head
Bowles left home, dropped out of school
in the 8th grade, lived on the streets, and
supported himself by prostituting his
body to men
8. Arrested an imprisoned on sexual assault
charges for beating and raping a woman
he lived with when he was in his 20s
She had strangulation marks around
her neck, extreme bite marks on her
breasts, and internal lacerations to
the vagina and rectum
Jailed again on robbery charges
9. Sentenced to the death
penalty for three murders
He is currently incarcerated
at the Union Correctional
Institute in Raiford, FL
