Thinking about publishing a book? Well, are you really ready to publish? Here are some questions you may need to answer or consider before moving forward.
2. Author’s Goal
Every call from a prospective author over
the last 20 years either begins with or
leads to this statement:
“My book is a best-seller.”
3. The Truth
Writing a book, most assuredly your first book, could be a
“good-seller” if one or all of these things are true:
•Great writing (active, clear, creative, stylistic)
•Timely topic
•Useful information
•Interesting or Provocative
•Inspirational
•Simple yet thorough
•Appropriate tone (i.e. funny when it actually should be)
•Effective packaging
(title, cover design, layout, organization)
4. Reasons for Low Sales
• completely self-guided
• wrong motivation
• think anyone can be a book
publisher
• think they must have a best-seller
5. The Three C’s of Publishing
• Creative Control – who controls the
design or layout
• Cost Control – who controls the
royalty or profits
• Copyright Control – who controls
the rights to the work
6. What type of publishing are
you best suited for?
• Vanity publishing: pay to play
• Self-publishing: play by myself
• Traditional publishing: paid to play
7. Do you need help to
develop your book?
• Manuscript review: should do
• Professional editor: must have
• Writing coach: could need
• Ghostwriter: might try
8. How do you break into
the book market?
• Identifying a niche, opportunities and
gatekeepers
• Finding a literary agent
• Pitching to publishers and editors
• Working with a small press
• Self-publishing and marketing
9. How much do you know
about book marketing?
• Marketing the book vs. branding the author
• Being seen vs. being found
• Getting book reviews
• Connecting with your readers
• Giving them what they want vs. doing what
I want
12. Our History
Founded in 1995 in Decatur, Georgia, the
company starting publishing a newsletter that
later became a consumer magazine. The
company continued to design printed advertising
material for companies and presentation
documents for individuals. It began book
publishing operations in 2003. Today, Allwrite
publishes both books and provides marketing
services for people and organizations around the
country.
14. Publishing
1. In publishing, we are a small press that
publishes 3-4 books per year. We are not a
vanity or subsidy publisher. Thus, we solicit
manuscripts for publishing at no cost to the
author. For self-publishers or writers, we offer
editorial services, which include editing, layout
and design work on articles, books, manuals,
journals, periodicals, reports, as well as
advertising and promotional documents. We
charge for these services because we are not
the publisher of the work, simply the packager.
15. Advertising
2. In advertising, we are an integrated agency that
provides both creative and interactive services for
businesses and individuals, including authors. As a
creative agency, we focus on branding. Our
interactive services focus on online branding and
marketing.
• Create PR and Marketing Plans
• Design Branding Concepts
• Plan Promotional Campaigns and Events
• Compose Promotional Items (Brochures,

• Devise Social Media Campaigns
