Romare Bearden was an American artist in the 1900s who traveled widely in the U.S. and Europe and spent time in the army, drawing inspiration for his artwork from his travels and love of jazz and blues music. He worked as both a painter and collage artist, gaining fame for his collages which involved cutting and gluing together various materials like magazines, photos, and paper to create new artistic works.
