To bring Revolutions in Education, we need a New Philosophy of Education and Strategies, Theories and Approcahes. We need a ten fold increase in the efficiency and productivity and cost reducation in Education. Knowledge must be made accessible and useable to all. In these contexts, the relevance of Mathew's Theories of Knowledge Consumption-Production and Knowmatics have been discussed.

Mathew's Theories of Knowledge - Applications in Education, Professional Services, Research and Information Technology
1. DR. RAJU M. MATHEW
(Based on the Paper ‘Knowmatics – A New Revolution in Higher Education’
Journal of the World Universities Forum 4,1,2011:1-11. Its video
presentation has been posted in YouTube)
2. REVOLUTIONS IN EDUCATION
We have reached a stage in which humanity cannot go
further without making Revolutions in Education.
Education has entered a stage of stagnation, deterioration
and collapse, despite its growth to a level of a Big Industry
or Business and never ending Reforms.
In spite of the heavy investments, what the humanity is
getting out of education, from schools, training centers and
universities or research centers, is meager and no way
justifiable in terms of returns, thanks to the crude and
outdated theories , strategies and approaches. New
philosophy, theories and strategies have been formulated
to bring Revolutions in Education.

3. Education is Knowledge-Centric
And IT Data-Centric
Education is built upon Knowledge ; Consumption
and Production of Knowledge at different levels.
Concepts are the building blocs of knowledge.
Teaching, Learning, Skill Acquisition and Developing
Expertise are the functions of consumption and
production of Knowledge at different levels. Sound
strategies in Education can be formulated only on the
basis of sound theories of consumption and
production of Knowledge. Information Technology is
founded on Data or Information. Data has no meaning
or relevance without knowledge.

5. KNOWLEDGE CONSUMPTION
Knowledge Consumption is accessing or acquiring
and grasping knowledge for concept
formation, framing questions, solving
problems, deriving conclusions or modifying the
existing systems or inventing new systems.
On the basis of quantity, knowledge consumption can
be at low or high rate.
On the basis of quality, knowledge consumption can
be at low or high level.

6. KNOWLEDGE PRODUCTION
Knowledge Production is the creation or invention of
new
ideas, concepts, theories, methods, process, machines
or systems; finding new relationships between
variables, giving new interpretations or explanations
and communicating them to the potential knowledge
consumers by different means.
On the basis of quantity, knowledge production can
be at low or high rate.
On the basis of quality, knowledge production can be
at low or high level. of Knowledge Consumption-

7. BASIC PROPOSITIONS
1. High rate of knowledge consumption leads to high level of
knowledge consumption provided, one must have the required
academic or intellectual caliber, accessibility of the required
knowledge, basic skills in knowledge consumption and
production, proper guidance of experts and above all necessity,
threat or competition.
2. High level knowledge consumption is a pre-condition for high
level knowledge production except in the case of intuition,
revelation or imagination.
3.The basic motive for high level knowledge consumption is
knowledge production, including interpretation or application.
4. Provision of the value added knowledge solutions, services,
products or packages can augment consumption and production
of high level knowledge into several folds.

8. MATHEW’S THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE
CONSUMPTION–PRODUCTION CORREALTION
Statement of the Theory: “There exists
a direct correlation between high level
knowledge consumption and high level
knowledge production. Such kind of
correlation may or may not exist in the
case of low level of knowledge
consumption / production”.
Mathew's Theories of Knowledge Consumption-

9. Meaning and Implications of the
Theory
High level knowledge producers are experts or
scientists or innovators or decision makers who bring
out changes and development. The development of a
nation depends upon its ability to produce sufficient
number of high level knowledge producers within the
specified time. Here the best strategy is creating
sufficiently large number of high level knowledge
consumers on the diverse domains of knowledge.

10. Mathew’s Stage Theory of Knowledge
Consumption-Production Growth
Statement of the Theory: “Knowledge Consumption-
Production Growth takes place in five successive
stages. They are: i) Low level knowledge
consumption, ii)Getting Aware of the importance of
knowledge consumption-production, iii) High Rate
and Level of Knowledge Consumption, iv)Emergence
or application of sophisticated Methods and
Techniques of high level knowledge consumption –
production and v) Consumption and production of
High Level Knowledge and making every activity
knowledge intensive and the emergence of a
knowledge society.”

11. Meaning and Implications
of the Theory
Mathew’s Stage Theory of Knowledge Consumption-
Production Growth deals with the transformation of an
individual from lower stages of knowledge consumption to
higher stages of knowledge production as well as the
development of society or economy from backwardness to
affluences of the Knowledge Economy. This theory can be
applied in improving the efficiency of simple and
sophisticated skill acquisitions and augmenting scientific
productivity. Details of the strategy are dealt in the original
text ‘Knowmatics – A New Revolution in Higher
Education’, Journal of the World Universities Forum
4, 1,2011:1-11.

12. REDESIGNING EDUCATION SYSTEM AND
DEVELOPING KNOWLEDGE INDUSTRIES.
School and university education must be redesigned for
augmenting knowledge consumption and knowledge
production at different levels and the learners are equipped
with the art and technique of knowledge consumption and
production. Knowledge Industries must be developed to
facilitate the accessibility of knowledge and the provision of the
value added knowledge products, services, packages and
solutions. As a result, we can produce top level
scientists, thinkers, experts, technocrats, professionals, innovat
ors, decision makers besides technicians and master
craftsmen, within a short span of time; scientific productivity
can be enhanced into several folds, besides making skill
acquisition more effective. Stress in learning, teaching or
research can be cut short off art a considerable level.

13. COMMON STRUCTURE FOR ALL
DOMAINS OF KNOWLEDGE
On the basis of his further studiers on the structure and
representation of knowledge in the Bible, the Koran, The
Vedas And Upanishads, the Ayurveda and Modern
Science, including Social Sciences and also the Theoretical
Foundation of Information Technology, Mathew found
that there exists a common structure and method for all
domains of knowledge and concepts are the basic building
blocks of knowledge domains. Knowledge processing
technology can be built up on the basis of developing
algorithms based on knowledge structure for which he
proposed Knowmatics in 2005.

14. DEFINING KNOWMATICS
“Knowmatics”, according to Mathew, “is the
mathematical and engineering study of the
nature, structure, representation and
communication of knowledge for developing
knowledge processing and handling technologies
and industries and thereby augmenting knowledge
consumption and production into several
fold, from lover to higher levels”.
Mathew's Theories of Knowledge Consumption-
1/10/2012 Production and Revolution in Education 14
15. APPLICATION OF KNOIWMATICS
IN EDUCATION
Knowmatics is not only a science or mathematics of
knowledge but also a revolutionary approach towards
knowledge, learning, teaching, research and putting
knowledge into practices. High quality Knowledge
consumption, production and application are the
advanced level of human activities and universities are
charged with augmenting these intellectual processes
and attaining a quantum leap from low levels of
knowledge consumption to higher levels of knowledge
consumption, production and applications, by
developing appropriate methods and technologies.

16. RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT IN
KNOWMATICS
Knowmatics, as a science and technology, offers wonder
potentialities of design and development of suitable systems,
services and technologies and development and marketing of
innovative knowledge products and services for all human
endeavors that are based on or related to knowledge –expertise,
learning, skill acquisition, innovation, scientific research,
professional practices , planning and decision making,
formulation of policies, theories and strategies and etc. There is a
need for global initiatives in conducting R & D efforts in
Knowmatics and Knowledge Processing Technology for
collecting, organizing and repacking all knowledge in diverse
forms, available in any part of the world, including modern
science and technology, spirituality and religion, traditional
wisdom and indigenous knowledge besides even the unrecorded
tribal myths, beliefs and sayings.
