FIRE IN OUR BELLY!
Fire in the belly (definition)
If you have fire in your belly, you are ready to
fight with energy and determination for what
you believe is right. Kindred Minds will
approach the committee with plenty of fire in
their belly.
We have to do what is right even if it doesn’t change a thing. Timimum sq, nazi, external world might not seem to change, but the soul will say thank you, thank you for knowing yr power and loving yr soul. We have to climb mountains, but we be nearer to the skies than anyone else.
Rosa Louise McCauley Parks (February 4, 1913 – October 24, 2005) was an African-American civil rights activist, whom the U.S. Congress called "the first lady of civil rights", and "the mother of the freedom movement". People always say that I didn't give up my seat because I was tired, but that isn't true. I was not tired physically, or no more tired than I usually was at the end of a working day. I was not old, although some people have an image of me as being old then. I was forty-two. No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in.

"The 24 hour clinic is a vital service for people across south London, but despite many meetings, petitions and a debate in the House of Commons, the Government still refuses to change its mind about the closure.
Why is there the problem? What do we need to know? Who has the power to change? Or help along the way? Who can be your allies? How have similar campaigns have been successful? How does it affect people? What evidence can be provided? What are the laws around it? What are your rights? What has happened already? Who would be interested in the issue?
Who are directly affected? Who are the obvious allies? Who are the allies you don’t think of but could consider. Who can help practically, financially, legally/
Don’t know what the issue yet, but with regards to mental health, knowing the mental health act, or the equalities act, or the human rights law, would be handy.
Give example of going to the house of lords to get support for talking therapies, where charity head gave the facts and figures and I gave my story, shortened version of my speech is at http://www.mind.org.uk/blog/3151_therapy_turned_my_life_around and we managed to sway the undecided into voting in our favour.

Creativity a useful tool, how could we campaign without the song of Bob Marley’s ‘Get up, stand up’. Music is noted in the slide, but can be through any artistic form. How could housing policy change in the 60s without ‘Cathy Come Home’, how about the 100s of books that have inspired people to do what they believe in? Locally we did it with Bonkersfest, and got international media attention and changed the way people thought about mental health.
Simply put, it is speaking up for yourself and knowing how to do it. You can self advocate, do it as a group, or go to organisations who will support you to get heard.

Southall Black Sisters (SBS) is a non-profit All-Asian organisation based in Southall, West London, England. This Asian-women's group was established in August 1979 in the aftermath of the death of anti-fascist activist Blair Peach, who had taken part in a demonstration against a National Front rally at Southall Town Hall.[1] They are best known for the role they played in the Ahluwalia case in 1989 when a woman named Kiranjit Ahluwalia set fire to her abusive husband. They supported her in the case, and were eventually successful.
We are already an alienated sector of society, in fact the most alienated sector of society. We are not full members of this society or culture and that is not going to change without us changing it. Because why is it in their interest to change what makes them feel comfortable and superior. Icarus The Icarus Project envisions a new culture and language that resonates with our actual experiences of 'mental illness' rather than trying to fit our lives into a conventional framework. We are a network of people living with and/or affected by experiences that are commonly diagnosed and labeled as psychiatric conditions. We believe these experiences are mad gifts needing cultivation and care, rather than diseases or disorders. Soteria network We are a network of people in the UK promoting the development of drug-free and minimum medication therapeutic environments for people experiencing 'psychosis' or extreme states. We are part of an international movement of service users, survivors, activists, carers and professionals fighting for more humane, non-coercive mental health services.
Social change doesn’t happen by accident, social change does not happen when people do nothing, social change does not happen if you hope someone else does it. Social change happens when people make it happen.
