What are some practical ways that we can use technology to evangelize the world? This presentation is meant for someone who has a limited or basic understanding of the tools and methods available using traditional broadcast mediums and social media.
5. Is Technology “of Satan?” Code of Hammurabi, dated to 1750 B.C., begins with the phrase, “When Anu the Sublime, King of the Anunaki, and Bel, the lord of Heaven and earth…”
6. God Still Chose STONE. “And the LORD said to Moses, "Cut two tablets of stone like the first ones, and I will write on these tablets the words that were on the first tablets which you broke.” (Exodus 34:1 NKJV)
7. TECHNOLOGY Is Not the Problem! WAITING to use technology IS the problem!
10. FACTS: 500 million active users. 50% of those users are active on any given day. 70% of Facebook users are international. 150 million “mobile” users, who tend to be twice as active as “traditional” users.
11. FACTS: 2,000,000,000 (2 billion) videos are watched every day. “In fact, every minute, 24 hours of video is uploaded to YouTube.” Users’ ages range from 18-55. 52% of 18-34 year olds share video “often” with friends and colleagues.
30. Mark 28:19-20 (19) Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (20) teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
Editor's Notes
"Practical Methods For Going Into All The World. Think for just a minute about all the tools we have at our fingertips. Television and the Internet have made virtually every nook and cranny of our world accessible to anyone -- an incredible development in just the past few decades. Using these and other mediums, what can (and should) we be doing to fulfill our role in going into all the world? Why are we sticking to certain outdated ideas? Is tradition and familiarity with certain methods a valid reason for sticking with them? This lecture will be heavy on practical examples and ideas...challenging our thinking and hopefully re-shaping our methods of evangelism where they need to be re-shaped.”NOT my intention to invalidate old methods – but to make you aware of NEW ones.
Many different ways… but today we want to focus on…
High technology… Technology is…
Some well meaning brethren hold this view – “media is tainted” – there is a lot of false doctrine, but consider… Did God decide that this medium was “too tainted”?
It seems that God still chose to use the technology of the day to convey his message – we could spend much time discussing the development of writing…
REALIZE THIS: Often we are “behind the times” – it ought not to be so! It seems as though often we must wait on the denominational world to “prove” the effectiveness of a certain medium – do you see a problem there?
We have an advantage today which preachers using broadcast media in the past did not have [mention that they were effective then!]. NEW MEDIA gives us the ability to carry on a conversation through “non-threatening” and non-invasive means.*Many of the things I will mention today are things I haven’t “tried” or proven – but that’s the point! We need to move to the forefront of innovation!
We need to go where the people are – Acts 17:17 – the synagogues and the marketplaces, Acts 20:20, in Ephesus had been taught publicly and from house to house. Where are the people?
Not going to spend a lot of time talking about “groups” – that’s for another session – just realize the potential of these tools with me today.
Separately they don’t do as much – but together… they are powerful!
Notice the Sharing buttons – THEY ARE POWERFUL!
These are a few of my friends, but my reach goes well beyond them…
When you “share” or tag: That gets you into the network of others!
YouTube is linked in heavily to Google (it is an independent subsidiary of Google). Google not only hosts video, but can drive traffic to your website and other things if used properly!
It’s AMAZING what you can do with webcams these days!
Watershed – pay service, but you can pay “per viewer hour” – starting at $1 per viewer our, or $49 monthly for 500, $.40 per viewer hour after that.Livestream – free service.Justin.tv – free, but will not allow you to save more than a few minutes of video at a time. *WITH ALL – be sure to embed them into your website.
How do we “make” content”?
How do we “make” content”?
Use Facebook’s mail feature – you can use it even if you aren’t friends with someone! Search for them using their email address.Eyejot – plans start at
Tell about what has happened in just the past week – an average of 5 requests per week through website, our total traffic is only 179 unique visitors in the past month.
We use WTS – www.wtsduplication.com – for 100, $1.35, for 300 and up $1.09, for 500 and up, $.95
Things to produce, “What to Expect”, “Welcome to the Community”, “One for the Road” [CD]
Don’t underestimate – good for both edification and outreach.
Discuss the “buttons” – also the Google voice number.
This is pretty generic! – close with the words of Jerry Jenkins, “I can preach to more people in 30 minutes on TV than I can in a year while in the pulpit.” – May we continue to try to find ways to reach the lost!
