2. Performance
• Performance videos focus on the band or
artist singing to the camera (lip-synching), and
playing instruments.
• They can be a set up performance to the
camera for the purpose of the music video, or
can be a recording of one or more live
performances to a crowd.
3. Illustrative
• Illustrative videos literally depict the lyrics on
screen.
• They clearly present the meaning of the lyrics
as the artist intended.
• They are more cinematic than performance
type videos and have a clear set narrative.
• They are interesting and easy to understand.
4. Interpretive/Disjunctive
• Interpretive videos explore what the lyrics connote
rather than showing a clear literal meaning.
• They are cinematic and can range from having a
complex narrative to being a seemingly meaningless
collection of images.
• They may appear to be not connected to the song, and
can be very abstract.
• They allow the audience t form their own
interpretation of the meaning behind the song.
• They often have a great impact on the audience and
are interesting.
