  1. 1. 1 Organizational Commitment Module 6: Week 6 – M6: Assignment 6 Baroness Thompson PSY320 Industrial Organizational Psychology Marian Orr April 8, 2008Organizational CommitmentWeek 6 Project 2
  2. 2. 2 Organizational Commitment I believe Susie feel’s content as an employee of the Management team at AceEnterprises. Her feelings and work can have a positive impact on the company as awhole. She is in Management. The company can grow as with her help. She feels satisfied. Her family is lookingat her position from a different point of view. They can focus on relations amongaffective, continuance, and normative commitment with her and her company. Herorganization needs her. She should ask her family to showdown her through out her day. They may v view her position differently. This can include relations between the threeforms of commitment and variables identified as their antecedents, correlates, andconsequences. Susie’s friends and family can have a negative affect on Susie’s workperformance. Susie’s company is a very good company. Three-Component Model consists of three forms of commitment. They arerelated yet distinguishable from one another as well as from job satisfaction, jobinvolvement, and occupational commitment. Affective and continuance commitmentgenerally correlated as expected with their hypothesized antecedent variables; no uniqueantecedents of normative commitment.Organizational CommitmentWeek 6 Project 2
  3. 3. 3 All three forms of commitment related negatively to withdrawal cognition andturnover, and affective commitment had the strongest and most favorable correlationswith organization-relevant (attendance, performance, and organizational citizenshipbehavior) and employee-relevant (stress and work–family conflict) outcomes. In closing, normative commitment is also associated with desirable outcomes, albeit not as strongly. Continuance commitment was unrelated or related negatively, tothese outcomes. Comparisons of studies conducted within and outside North Americarevealed considerable similarity yet suggested that more systematic primary researchconcerning cultural differences is warranted.Assignment 2: Organizational CommitmentSusie worked for Ace Enterprises for 12 years. She was always happy with her work andfelt like she belonged at Ace Enterprises and didn’t want to leave. Many of her friendswere her coworkers, and she played on the company softball team. The management at Ace Enterprises helped Susie advance in her career. The organizationprovided her with training opportunities and stood by her when she needed to take timeoff to deal with personal problems.Organizational CommitmentWeek 6 Project 2

However, Susie told them she preferred to stay at Ace Enterprises. Notonly did she like her job and coworkers, but also felt that they gave her a lot in return forher work.Affective commitmentContinuance commitmentNormative commitmentWhat are your views of Susie’s commitment to her organization?
