What do you mean by VISION?
The ability to think about and plan for the future, using
intelligence and imagination, especially in politics and
business.
What is Vision 2021?
Vision 2021 is a set of solid development targets for
Bangladesh by the end of 2021 by the Government under
the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Why is the year 2021 important for us?
The year 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of
independence.
8. The broad targets of Bangladesh by 2021
1. Achieve middle-income country status by 2021 through
sustained annual rate of GDP at 10 per cent by 2021.
2. Eradicate illiteracy after 2014, by ensuring 100 per cent
net enrolment at primary level and turn Bangladesh into a
country of educated people with adequate skills in
information technology.
3. Substantially eradicate poverty by bringing down the
number of people living below the poverty line to 15%.
4. Ensure a minimum intake of 2,122 k. cal/person/day
of food for all and standard nutritional food to at least
85% of the population by 2021.

5. Achieve self sufficiency in food by 2012.
6. Change the output of agriculture, industry, and services
to approximately 15 percent, 38 percent, and 47 percent
respectively by 2021.
7. Reduce the unemployment rate to 15 percent.

9. Supply pure drinking water for the entire population and
bring all household under hygienic sanitation.

10. Reduce maternal mortality to 1.5 per cent, raise the use
of birth control methods to 80 percent, and bring down
infant mortality to 15 per thousand by 2021.

12. Generate 20,000 MW of electricity by 2021, such that it
ensures per capita energy consumption to rise to 600 kwh.
13. Ensure protection of the environment by effectively
meeting the challenges arising from climate change and
preventing environmental degradation.
14. Promote and deepen the application of information
technology towards a digital Bangladesh.
