5. Miri WiFi Network
• Project to build outdoor WiFi network for Miri Resort City
• Timeline – start August 2004 – Live May 2005
• Complete turnkey solution from design to delivery
• A first for Malaysia
• Project spend totalled MYR 1m
• Coverage for over 15 sq/km
7. Key Milestones
• Creating the UK and Malaysian team
• Creating the optimum design for coverage based on access to buildings
• Organising wayleaves for equipment site
• Obtaining temporary (12 months) licence to operate the network
• Overcoming backhaul challenges with TM – balancing satellite bandwidth
and DSL
• Designing the IP67 outdoor equipment and fabricating the base station
frames
• Creating a project team of 15 engineers (Malaysian/UK) to deploy and
maintain the network
• Installed and tested from Dec 04 – Apr 05
• Launched by Sarawak 1St Minister at Miri Resort Status Festival May 05
