to enter here by next year.

4. CANADA’S Research in Motion, the maker of the popular BlackBerry
cellphone, on Tuesday said it would meet the Indian government
deadline of January 31 to provide a ‘final solution’ for lawful interception
of services offered on this handsets.
Mr Crow also claimed that there was no deadline imposed by the
government, and said the January 31 was a negotiated date for RIM to
‘complete developments of certain projects to meet mutual goals’.
India’s home ministry was also targeting the virtual private network
(VPN) – the secure solutions offered by other companies such as Nokia,
Microsoft,Google, IBM and Oracle.

5. THE rupee slipped to a fresh twomonth low on
Wednesday amid an equity market sell-off in late trade
on reports of a federal probe into loans issued by
financial institutions while broad dollar gains also
weighed.
The partially convertible rupee closed at 45.6950/7050
per dollar, 0.3% below its 45.57/58 close on Tuesday. The
rupee, however, recovered from the day’s low of 45.8350,
which was its lowest since September 21.
The euro hit a two-month low against the dollar on
Wednesday as an earlier recovery fizzled out due to
worries the euro zone debt crisis will spread and on
renewed concerns about Korean tensions.

6. THE much-awaited mobile number portability (MNP), a service that allows
subscribers to change service providers while keeping the same number,
will be available to more than 700 million Indian subscribers from January
20, 2011, the new telecoms minister, Kapil Sibal, said
“Mobile number portability which we are inaugurating in Haryana will be
available on January 20 next year across the country. We will be technically
and commercially ready,” Sibal said.
Mobile phone users in Haryana will be able to switch between nine
operators - Airtel, Idea Cellular, BSNL, Aircel, Loop, Vodafone, Etisalat,
Sistema andVideocon
But after switching, the consumer will have to stay with a particular
operator for at least three months .
