Tabloids
- A great selection on attention-grabbing
subjects.
- The content is full of entertainments.
- Use very little content of politics,
economy or other serious matter.
- It devotes three pages, the same as the
broadsheets to football that they called
“barclays premier league” but the
broadsheet devotes more pages to other
sports like rugby, sailing and also three
pages to crosswords called “coffee break”
section.

- The inside is more elegant regarding to
pictures and the way they are structured.
- It has got less picture than the broadsheet.

Tabloids
- These are two typical pictures you are going to find in daily publications, I should say
that they are not really classy.
- It is also splashy the kind of language it is used, like puffing, dirty, dwarf.
- It is also appealing the size of the letters and its font.

- We can see here really formal pictures and headlines.
- The vocabulary it uses does not exaggerate at all like in broadsheets.
8. What are they focused on?
Tabloids:
- They are focused on sensational issues more than serious ones, like gossips, celebrities
affairs, health issues, entertainments, sports (all kind).
- People say that they are aimed at the working class but late researchers say that middle
class buy them also.
- They often exaggerate the news in order to sell more.
- Their main purpose is entertain.
Broadstreets:
- They tend to employ a traditional approach to news.
- Most of its readers are middle class people.
- They normally say the truth
- Their subject are mainly politics, economy, world news, sports (mainly
football and tennis).
- Their main purpose is inform citizens and give a quality paper for the middle-class
to enjoy reading it.
9. History of the newspapers:
Tabloids: Comes from the name given by the London based pharmaceutical company Burroughs
Wellcome & Co. to the compressed tablets they marketed as "Tabloid" pills in the late 1880s.
- There are, broadly, two main types of tabloid newspaper: red top and compact.
Red top tabloids are so named due to their tendency, in British and Commonwealth usage, to have their
mastheads printed in red ink; the term compact was coined to avoid the connotation of the word tabloid,
which implies a red top tabloid, and has lent its name to tabloid journalism, which is journalism after the
fashion of red top reporters.
E.g red tops tabloids: The Sun, the Daily Star, the Daily Mirror and the Daily Sport.
Compact tabloids: use an editorial style more closely associated with broadsheet newspapers. The term
compact was coined in the 1970s by the Daily Mail, one of the earlier newspapers to make the change,
although it now once again calls itself a tabloid.
E.g compact: Daily mail, daily express, The independent, the morning star.
Broadsheets:
Broadsheets developed after the British in 1712 placed a tax on newspapers based on the
number of their pages

10. Advertisements:
Tabloids
- Flat and cheap stuffed adverts.
- They normally use non coloured ones.
- There are not clear divisions between them and
the stuff can not be seen very clear also.
Broadsheets
- They advert luxury stuff or interesting
information for the society like jobs or
education.
- They use coloured advert with nice and
well defined pictures.
