How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?
1. How effective is the
combination of your main
product and ancillary
tasks?
2. My ideas explained…
The combination of my main product and ancillary tasks is very
effective. The trailer, poster and magazine and clearly
interlinked and all have a similar theme running throughout, the
mask. The name of my trailer is ‘The Unexpected’ and I have
used this as the main theme of my work, using the masked
figures and the masks themselves to support the horror genre
as well as the theme I adapted and evolved, the theme that
masks the masks the unexpected rather than the sense of the
content of the trailer being unexpected.
3. The trailer…
As I said before, I have made the masks support the unknown
and unexpected theme of my work. In my trailer, I did this by
having the masked faces appear throughout the trailer at
unexpected times. I have done this to make the trailer more
gripping, adding anticipation and making the trailer more of a
horror trailer, using parallel sound, matching the masks with
sinister sound. This then means that I have adapted and evolved
the theme of my work so that the audience doesn’t know when
to expect the next masked face which I believe is effective in
itself and adds suspense to the trailer as well as creating a tense
and gripping atmosphere, emphasising the horror genre of my
work.
4. The poster…
On my film poster, I made the background an image of a
forest with the masked figure hidden by a tree on the left
hand side of the poster. The reasoning behind this is the
same as the reasoning behind my trailer, I wanted to
emphasise the unexpected theme of my work. It isn’t until
you have carefully scanned the poster that you notice the
figure, making its appearance unexpected. Having the
masked figure on the poster clearly links it to my film trailer
as the two are interlinked by the mask. Other factors shows
that the two are well matched would be the name of the film
is on the poster and I have used
darker, low brightness, high
contrast images and effects to
make my work and I have carried
this onto my film magazine.
5. The magazine…
For my magazine, I chose to have an image of the masked
figure as my main image and make up the rest of my
background. This again links in with my other work because
I have chosen to use the same theme of the masks on my
magazine. Also, I chose to keep the forest in the piece of
work, having it make up the background of my magazine,
hinting at location and adding depth to the magazine front
cover. The fact that I have the title of the film ‘The
Unexpected’ on my magazine and I have the names of the
actresses in the film on my magazine shows that this
magazine is linked and related to my film trailer and my
film poster. I also chose to mention horror
films on the front cover of my magazine to
show that this issue is closely related to
horror and therefore related to my
film trailer.
6. So, how effective is the combination?
Considering all of the factors of my three piece of work and
how there are a lot of points that link the three together
closely, I think that the combination of my main product and
ancillary tasks is very effective. I have key themes that run
throughout all three pieces of work and they all represent the
horror genre and the idea of things being unexpected. You can
clearly tell that my two ancillary tasks are related to the trailer
due to factors such as colour, text, image, effects and the
masks and masked figures that continue to be shown in all
pieces of my work.
