This document discusses the role of Polish Jesuits in music during Poland's Golden Age from the 15th to mid-17th centuries. It profiles several famous Polish Jesuit composers who helped develop Polish culture and music, including Jan Brant, Adam Makowski, Marcin Laterna, Jacek Rajewicz, Wojciech Tylkowski, Florian Grabowski, Jozef Romankiewicz, and Jacek Szczurowski. These composers wrote sacred songs and anthems and helped fill churches built in the Baroque style with musical works that were an important part of evangelization efforts. 4. Polish Golden Age
It refers to the times from 15th century Jagiellon
Poland to mid-17th century, when in 1648
the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was
ravaged by the Khmelnytsky Uprising and The
Deluge and the Golden Age ended.
6. XVI century is called The Golden Age, as Poland was the
biggest european country (next to Russia). Also was
military and economic power.
Economic development promoted culture development.
The number of cities increased, as well as their
largeness.
Protestant Reformation movements made deep inroads
into the Polish Christianity, which resulted in unique at
that time in Europe policies ofreligious tolerance.
7. Not only famous Poles (as Jan Kochanowski or Mikolaj Kopernik)
helped Poland to achive a european level in scince and art but
also there were many jesuit musicians that diversified polish
culture.

9. Polish composer and musician
First who had ever used organs in vocal
compositions in basso continuo
Jesu dulcis was the first song performed by
students. It was sang each Tuesday from
Whitsun till Advent.
11. He cared a lot about music development in
churches.
He collected money for on maintenance of
permanent band of musicians in Saint Barbara
Church in Cracow.
The band was known in the whole city and it
gathered many people on masses.
15. He was known as Catholic song writer.
He wrote about six books of lyrics but
only two were published – “Clergy Harp” in
1585 and “Postyllia” in 1595.
Cult of Marcin Laterna spread all over
Poland on whole Poland after his martyr
death although he did not became saint.
19. He was very talented pianist.
He was a lecturer of rhetoric and theology
in Gdańsk and Sandomierz.
Unfortunately his music career did not have
a chance to increase because he died as a
young man in the age of 36.

inspired to create by a missionary
activities. The most intensive time
of those public works is dated
between 16th and 17th century.
They were building churches in
baroque style and fill them with orks
of art. Very important factor of
evangelization was the temple

music was adoring God.
