OF THE SITE
Introduction
We are required to find a specific empty land to initiate a small construction
project. The size of the land shall between 50m x 50m (2500m2) – 50m x 70m
(3500m2).
Individually, we have to propose one project that serves on any one or
combination of two or more of the following purposes: Recreation area, Commercial
area, Industrial area, Agricultural area, Tourism area, Residential area. Subsequently,
we are required to identify the professions required in our development. Besides
that, we need to list down the tasks each profession needs to do.
This project enabled us to develop an understanding of the building team, its
organization, duties and inter-relations. In addition, it also enabled us to develop an
awareness of their professional responsibilities and to appreciate their profession in
the construction industry.
2
Objective
The objective of this project is to provide convenience to residents living around the
site. Residents do not need to go a commercial shop or a place to do recreational
activities by car. They just need to go to the spot by walking within 4 minutes.
Project Benefits
Commercial areas enabled people to reduce stress and relax. Positive and
enjoyable recreation experiences can decrease stress and psychological tensions.
Leisure activities provide people with the opportunity to expel energy and emotion
not being released in other aspects of their lives.
Recreation area creates an opportunity to people to control weight, look
better, and build strong bodies. Sports participants had significantly lower body mass
index values, lower blood pressures, and lower resting pulse rates. In addition,
people who exercised regularly were happier than people who didn’t exercise at all.
Besides that, family bonds are improved by the sharing of leisure time. Families that
recreate together tend to be closer, more cohesive and improve their chances of
staying together. This is true with both parent-child relationships and married
couples. One can meet friends and create memories too. People can develop social
skills, problem solving and creativity. The best opportunities are those that are
planned and supervised. For children, physical activity is intellectually stimulating
and enhances the learning process and the development of cognitive skills.
3
Introduction to Site
The undeveloped empty land that we have looked upon is located at Jalan
Kemajuan Subang. It is approximately 26,896 Sq.Ft. There are greenery and woody
trees on the empty land.
In addition, there are several residential areas located near to our site and
there are two apartments which is Subang Soho and Olives residence are just
opposite to our site. Besides that, there is one primary school, Sekolah Kebangsaan
Perdana Jaya near to the site as well. It is a great area to be developed since it is near
to residential areas and school.
Some commercial shops such as 7-Eleven, stationary stores as well as food
court and recreation area such as sports complex should be built within this area in
order to bring convenience to people. Hence, this empty land has high potential to
become a successful recreation and commercial spot in the future.

and a primary school nearby as well. Some shops can be found too.
8
Micro Climate
The sun rises from the east to west, there are little obstructions around so people
can enjoy the view of the sunrise and sunset. The wind direction is from west to east,
thus the land is cooling throughout the day.
9
Topography
There is a slope from the main road to the site. The land has an uneven surface as it
is a grassy land.
10
Traffic Condition
There is little trafficcongestionmostof the time of the day.
11
Ambience
There is little to none traffic noises as there is only a highway located quite a distance
away.
Pros and Cons
The land is surrounded by residential area and industrial area. Furthermore, it is
lacking of commercial and recreation area. Hence, this empty land has high potential
to become a successful recreation and commercial spot. Residents can walk or go by
bicycle to the spot.

Advantages of the site
The site is easily reachable from many directions. It can be reached using Jalan
SS16/1 and then turn onto Jalan Kemajuan Subang Highway. The site has a low
pollution rating because of the residential areas surrounding it. This allows the
people that stay nearby the ability to excess it easily. Other than that, this site has
great facilities. As examples, there are religious buildings there like some churches
and a surau nearby. Educational areas such as SK Perdana Jaya are also available
there. There are also a music centers, a golf center and more. The site has a lack of
proper waste management as seen by garbage being seen around the site. There are
also no office and commercial blocks built around the area. This causes the need to
drive out of the area for work. Lastly, the air quality is also not very good on site due
to the amount of traffic on the road.
Disadvantages of the site
The site is easily reachable from many directions. It can be reached using Jalan
SS16/1 and then turn onto Jalan Kemajuan Subang Highway. The site has a low
pollution rating becasue of the residential areas surrounding it. This allows the

PROPOSAL
2
(WONG
YUN TENG)
Suggestion and Proposal
I am Wong Yun Teng, a student from Taylor’s Lakeside University in a team
with Wong Mei Xin. In this project, our task is to develop an empty piece of
50x50m land that is beneficial to the community. The spacewe found is situated
in front of Olives residences.
I have proposedto build a food court or also known as food centre in that area. I
vision the area to be filled with people from all ages and from all places to stop
by that area to have their meals. The residents nearby that area will also have
easier access to food. The area is easy to access with direct roads connecting to
it so it won’t be hard for nearby residents to drop by. The food courtI am
proposingis a double story building that contains food stalls, dining areas, a
stage for entertainment as well as a parking lot.
The food court will be a public area, where people can enjoy their food with just
paying the price of the food and no entrance fees needed. The people are free to
park in the parking lot. The parking lot is located on the ground floor while the
food court is located on the floor above it, there are guard houses nearby the
parking lot to ensure the safety of the customers. The food court is well
equipped with basic necessities suchas washrooms and even a surau.
The workers clean the dining area often to ensure there are empty seats for new
customers; this is to avoid crowdedness and also to keep the area sanitary. There
are trash bins and recycle bins all around the food court to encourage that the
customers to keep clean. The food court is open from 8am to 10pm daily.
Rationale
I have come upon proposinga food court because there are many residential
areas around this area and not a lot of commercial area thus the community
might find driving out for lunch or dinner to be pretty hectic as there is a
highway near this area that have traffic congestions during dinner time.
So having a food court nearby will decrease the need for them to drive far and
waste their time on traffic.
Benefits
- This allows for the easy access to food by the residences nearby.
- Residents use less energy to find food via transportation
- Has a diverse selection of food to cater to many people
- Allows for less land to be taken up by restaurants and eateries
- Creates job opportunities for residents and other people
- Creates a venue for meet ups and activities
- Market price for housing in the area goes up
- Easier solution for families that cannot decide what to eat
- Improves residents nutritional balance indirectly
- Offers cheaper food compared to proper restaurants
Impacts
- Economy in the area goes up as the place becomes more known
- Noise pollution goes up due to the traffic
- Garbage accumulates around the area
- Amount of people in the area increases thus affects the traffic
- Business in the area will increase that will also affect the traffic
- Vehicles from outstation might congest the area
- Might cause traffic problems in the area
- Air quality drops due to the exhaust from incoming vehicles
- Increases competition of the eateries
- May drive away some residents due to the noise pollution
The name of my food court is called Olive Food
Centre.
It is a 2 storey building.
Plan of Proposal
This is the ground floor; it is a parking lot of customers to park their cars.
The plan for the First floor (Food Court)
The following concepts are to be applied in
the project:
• Centre stage at the Plaza Centre
The stage will have performers hired by the Food Courtto perform every
night from 7-10pm for the entertainment of the customers. Activities such
as charity events are also some times organized. People can also rent the
stage for their own public or private purposes. This ensures the customers
are entertained as they enjoy their good meal. This also helps the store
owners to controlthe patience of their customers with this method.
• Food Stalls
There are a large number of food stalls of different varieties to satisfy all
kinds of customers. . Meals are ordered at one of the vendors and then
carried to the dining area. The food may also be ordered as takeout for
consumption at another location. The spacebetween each food stall is
wide to avoid congestion and there is an info board for easy access to
search of specific food stalls. The food stalls also have a proper serving
system to prevent the area getting too crowded. The way the food is
prepared is also made so that it reaches the customer in optimum time,
allowing the food to be eaten while hot.
• Washrooms
The public washrooms are always kept clean. It is build next to the Surau.
There is a washroom for men, women and also the disabled. Cleaners are
appointed to clean the washrooms at constant times to assure the
washrooms are always at its cleanest. Male cleaners are appointed to the
male washrooms and vice versa. Male cleaners that are appointed to the
female washrooms are required to ring a bell before the start cleaning to
inform the people currently inside that he’s coming in to start cleaning.
• Parking Lot
The parking lot is free for customers to park and is kept safe by security
guards. Guards are required to patrol the area once every 2 hours.
Emergency buttons are located on every other pillar so in caseanything
happens you can press the button and a siren will sound, alerting the
guards. The guards also help you park the car by telling you if you are too
close or far from car or wall behind you.
Plan of parking lot
Professions and their tasks
• ConsultantQuantity Surveyor
After the client has decided what they want to do with the plot of
land. The Consultant Quantity Surveyor examines the 50x50m land
and starts planning the costof the project for the client. After that,
they then deal with the contracts, the measurements and the costs
of the construction. The Consultant Quantity Surveyor also forms a
team of architects, civil engineers, structural engineers, mechanical
and electrical engineers to work on the project. Sometimes they
also look for specialist skills, if required. Some of these jobs
include reinforced concrete works, structural steelwork, foundation
piling, and roofing, cladding, plumbing and electrical work.
• Architect
The architect is responsible in monitoring the architectural aspects
of the development of the food courtand also productionof the
construction documents suchas plans and specifications. This
usually involves managing the needs of the owner, designer and
technical staff, and other consultants such as structural engineers,
mechanical engineers, landscape architects and others. All of them
are associated with architectural design, construction materials and
methods as well as the productionof construction documents.
Another responsibilities are also includes the zoning and building
codemanagement, determining the material specifications,
maintaining quality control by checking and making revisions to
drawings, discussing the objectives, requirements and budget of a
project. The architect will also have to prepare and present the
feasibility reports and design proposals to the developer in regards
of requirement request by the client (owner), advising on the
practicality of the project, contribute to the creative and
constructive process ofvalue engineering and maintain a thorough
working knowledge of architectural regulations and standards.
Besides, all the drawings, lay outs and related plans produced by
the architects need to be approved by the authorities involved.
• Civil Engineer
To plan a food court, the Civil Engineer has to analyse survey
reports, maps and other data. He/She also considers construction
costs, government regulations, potential environmental and other
factors in planning stages as well to be able to determine the
building material to be used. Then, he/she test soils to determine
the adequacy and strength of foundations as well as possible
building materials, such as concrete, asphalt, or steel, for use in this
project.
Other responsibilities include; providing estimation for material,
equipment and labour for the determination of the food court's
economic feasibility, managing the repair and maintenance of the
food court and performing or overseeing surveying operations to
establish reference points, grades and elevation to guide to
construction.
• Structural Engineer
Structural engineers carry out strength calculations and prepare
drawings of structures to ensure they are strong enough to avoid
collapse when loaded in order to ensure the safety of the customers
of the food court.
• Mechanical Engineer
• The main tasks of mechanical engineers would involve
researching, designing parts in mechanical devices such as air
conditioning and elevators of the food court, testing said devices
and overseeing the productionof these machines, tool and other
mechanical devices and systems. Other devices mechanical
engineers work on at the food court would be refrigeration,
elevators and the sound system of the centre stages.
• Electrical Engineer
The electrical engineer designs the way electric is supplied to the
food court, develop manufacturing by doing calculations and
supervising the manufacture, installation, operation and
maintenance of electrical systems. They work on systems for the
generation, distribution, utilisation and controlof electric power.
They also work with the program manager in order to ensure the
food court meets the satisfactory requirement. In case of
complications, Electrical engineers have to investigate complaints
from customers of the food court and evaluate problem to
recommend solutions
• Sanitary Engineer
The sanitary engineer designs and directs construction and
operation of hygienic projects such as sewage, garbage and
trash disposal, drainage systems in order to increase the
overall cleanliness of the food court to prevent the
spreading of disease.
• Program Manager
The project managers ensure the project is completed on
time and within budget, that the project's objectives are
met and that everyone else is doing their job properly.
Project managers oversee the project to ensure the desired
result is achieved, the most efficient resources are used
and the different interests involved are satisfied.

  • 3. We are required to find a specific empty land to initiate a small construction project. The size of the land shall between 50m x 50m (2500m2) – 50m x 70m (3500m2). Individually, we have to propose one project that serves on any one or combination of two or more of the following purposes: Recreation area, Commercial area, Industrial area, Agricultural area, Tourism area, Residential area. Subsequently, we are required to identify the professions required in our development. Besides that, we need to list down the tasks each profession needs to do. This project enabled us to develop an understanding of the building team, its organization, duties and inter-relations. In addition, it also enabled us to develop an awareness of their professional responsibilities and to appreciate their profession in the construction industry. 2 Objective
  • 4. The objective of this project is to provide convenience to residents living around the site. Residents do not need to go a commercial shop or a place to do recreational activities by car. They just need to go to the spot by walking within 4 minutes. Project Benefits Commercial areas enabled people to reduce stress and relax. Positive and enjoyable recreation experiences can decrease stress and psychological tensions. Leisure activities provide people with the opportunity to expel energy and emotion not being released in other aspects of their lives. Recreation area creates an opportunity to people to control weight, look better, and build strong bodies. Sports participants had significantly lower body mass index values, lower blood pressures, and lower resting pulse rates. In addition, people who exercised regularly were happier than people who didn’t exercise at all. Besides that, family bonds are improved by the sharing of leisure time. Families that recreate together tend to be closer, more cohesive and improve their chances of staying together. This is true with both parent-child relationships and married couples. One can meet friends and create memories too. People can develop social skills, problem solving and creativity. The best opportunities are those that are planned and supervised. For children, physical activity is intellectually stimulating and enhances the learning process and the development of cognitive skills. 3 Introduction to Site
  • 5. The undeveloped empty land that we have looked upon is located at Jalan Kemajuan Subang. It is approximately 26,896 Sq.Ft. There are greenery and woody trees on the empty land. In addition, there are several residential areas located near to our site and there are two apartments which is Subang Soho and Olives residence are just opposite to our site. Besides that, there is one primary school, Sekolah Kebangsaan Perdana Jaya near to the site as well. It is a great area to be developed since it is near to residential areas and school. Some commercial shops such as 7-Eleven, stationary stores as well as food court and recreation area such as sports complex should be built within this area in order to bring convenience to people. Hence, this empty land has high potential to become a successful recreation and commercial spot in the future. 4 Site context
  • 6. -Apartments opposite to the site- -Residential area nearby- 5
  • 9. -Fastfood shop nearby- -Shopping mallnearby- As the pictures shown above, these are the places that near to the site. There are two apartments opposite of the site. Furthermore, there are many residential areas and a primary school nearby as well. Some shops can be found too. 8 Micro Climate
  • 10. The sun rises from the east to west, there are little obstructions around so people can enjoy the view of the sunrise and sunset. The wind direction is from west to east, thus the land is cooling throughout the day. 9 Topography
  • 11. There is a slope from the main road to the site. The land has an uneven surface as it is a grassy land. 10 Traffic Condition
  • 12. There is little trafficcongestionmostof the time of the day. 11 Ambience
  • 13. There is little to none traffic noises as there is only a highway located quite a distance away. Pros and Cons The land is surrounded by residential area and industrial area. Furthermore, it is lacking of commercial and recreation area. Hence, this empty land has high potential to become a successful recreation and commercial spot. Residents can walk or go by bicycle to the spot. 12 Site plan
  • 15. The site is easily reachable from many directions. It can be reached using Jalan SS16/1 and then turn onto Jalan Kemajuan Subang Highway. The site has a low pollution rating because of the residential areas surrounding it. This allows the people that stay nearby the ability to excess it easily. Other than that, this site has great facilities. As examples, there are religious buildings there like some churches and a surau nearby. Educational areas such as SK Perdana Jaya are also available there. There are also a music centers, a golf center and more. The site has a lack of proper waste management as seen by garbage being seen around the site. There are also no office and commercial blocks built around the area. This causes the need to drive out of the area for work. Lastly, the air quality is also not very good on site due to the amount of traffic on the road. Disadvantages of the site The site is easily reachable from many directions. It can be reached using Jalan SS16/1 and then turn onto Jalan Kemajuan Subang Highway. • 29. Suggestion and Proposal I am Wong Yun Teng, a student from Taylor’s Lakeside University in a team with Wong Mei Xin. In this project, our task is to develop an empty piece of 50x50m land that is beneficial to the community. The spacewe found is situated in front of Olives residences. I have proposedto build a food court or also known as food centre in that area. I vision the area to be filled with people from all ages and from all places to stop by that area to have their meals. The residents nearby that area will also have easier access to food. The area is easy to access with direct roads connecting to it so it won’t be hard for nearby residents to drop by. The food courtI am proposingis a double story building that contains food stalls, dining areas, a stage for entertainment as well as a parking lot. The food court will be a public area, where people can enjoy their food with just paying the price of the food and no entrance fees needed. The people are free to park in the parking lot. The parking lot is located on the ground floor while the food court is located on the floor above it, there are guard houses nearby the parking lot to ensure the safety of the customers. The food court is well equipped with basic necessities suchas washrooms and even a surau. The workers clean the dining area often to ensure there are empty seats for new customers; this is to avoid crowdedness and also to keep the area sanitary. There are trash bins and recycle bins all around the food court to encourage that the customers to keep clean. The food court is open from 8am to 10pm daily. Rationale I have come upon proposinga food court because there are many residential areas around this area and not a lot of commercial area thus the community might find driving out for lunch or dinner to be pretty hectic as there is a highway near this area that have traffic congestions during dinner time. So having a food court nearby will decrease the need for them to drive far and waste their time on traffic.
  • 30. Benefits - This allows for the easy access to food by the residences nearby. - Residents use less energy to find food via transportation - Has a diverse selection of food to cater to many people - Allows for less land to be taken up by restaurants and eateries - Creates job opportunities for residents and other people - Creates a venue for meet ups and activities - Market price for housing in the area goes up - Easier solution for families that cannot decide what to eat - Improves residents nutritional balance indirectly - Offers cheaper food compared to proper restaurants Impacts - Economy in the area goes up as the place becomes more known - Noise pollution goes up due to the traffic - Garbage accumulates around the area - Amount of people in the area increases thus affects the traffic - Business in the area will increase that will also affect the traffic - Vehicles from outstation might congest the area - Might cause traffic problems in the area - Air quality drops due to the exhaust from incoming vehicles - Increases competition of the eateries - May drive away some residents due to the noise pollution
  • 31. The name of my food court is called Olive Food Centre. It is a 2 storey building.
  • 32. Plan of Proposal This is the ground floor; it is a parking lot of customers to park their cars.
  • 33. The plan for the First floor (Food Court)
  • 34. The following concepts are to be applied in the project: • Centre stage at the Plaza Centre The stage will have performers hired by the Food Courtto perform every night from 7-10pm for the entertainment of the customers. Activities such as charity events are also some times organized. People can also rent the stage for their own public or private purposes. This ensures the customers are entertained as they enjoy their good meal. This also helps the store owners to controlthe patience of their customers with this method.
  • 35. • Food Stalls There are a large number of food stalls of different varieties to satisfy all kinds of customers. . Meals are ordered at one of the vendors and then carried to the dining area. The food may also be ordered as takeout for consumption at another location. The spacebetween each food stall is wide to avoid congestion and there is an info board for easy access to search of specific food stalls. The food stalls also have a proper serving system to prevent the area getting too crowded. The way the food is prepared is also made so that it reaches the customer in optimum time, allowing the food to be eaten while hot.
  • 36. • Washrooms The public washrooms are always kept clean. It is build next to the Surau. There is a washroom for men, women and also the disabled. Cleaners are appointed to clean the washrooms at constant times to assure the washrooms are always at its cleanest. Male cleaners are appointed to the male washrooms and vice versa. Male cleaners that are appointed to the female washrooms are required to ring a bell before the start cleaning to inform the people currently inside that he’s coming in to start cleaning.
  • 37. • Parking Lot The parking lot is free for customers to park and is kept safe by security guards. Guards are required to patrol the area once every 2 hours. Emergency buttons are located on every other pillar so in caseanything happens you can press the button and a siren will sound, alerting the guards. The guards also help you park the car by telling you if you are too close or far from car or wall behind you.
  • 39. Professions and their tasks • ConsultantQuantity Surveyor After the client has decided what they want to do with the plot of land. The Consultant Quantity Surveyor examines the 50x50m land and starts planning the costof the project for the client. After that, they then deal with the contracts, the measurements and the costs of the construction. The Consultant Quantity Surveyor also forms a team of architects, civil engineers, structural engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers to work on the project. Sometimes they also look for specialist skills, if required. Some of these jobs include reinforced concrete works, structural steelwork, foundation piling, and roofing, cladding, plumbing and electrical work. • Architect The architect is responsible in monitoring the architectural aspects of the development of the food courtand also productionof the construction documents suchas plans and specifications. This usually involves managing the needs of the owner, designer and technical staff, and other consultants such as structural engineers, mechanical engineers, landscape architects and others. All of them are associated with architectural design, construction materials and methods as well as the productionof construction documents.
  • 40. Another responsibilities are also includes the zoning and building codemanagement, determining the material specifications, maintaining quality control by checking and making revisions to drawings, discussing the objectives, requirements and budget of a project. The architect will also have to prepare and present the feasibility reports and design proposals to the developer in regards of requirement request by the client (owner), advising on the practicality of the project, contribute to the creative and constructive process ofvalue engineering and maintain a thorough working knowledge of architectural regulations and standards. Besides, all the drawings, lay outs and related plans produced by the architects need to be approved by the authorities involved. • Civil Engineer To plan a food court, the Civil Engineer has to analyse survey reports, maps and other data. He/She also considers construction costs, government regulations, potential environmental and other factors in planning stages as well to be able to determine the building material to be used. Then, he/she test soils to determine the adequacy and strength of foundations as well as possible building materials, such as concrete, asphalt, or steel, for use in this project. Other responsibilities include; providing estimation for material, equipment and labour for the determination of the food court's economic feasibility, managing the repair and maintenance of the food court and performing or overseeing surveying operations to establish reference points, grades and elevation to guide to construction. • Structural Engineer Structural engineers carry out strength calculations and prepare drawings of structures to ensure they are strong enough to avoid
  • 41. collapse when loaded in order to ensure the safety of the customers of the food court. • Mechanical Engineer • The main tasks of mechanical engineers would involve researching, designing parts in mechanical devices such as air conditioning and elevators of the food court, testing said devices and overseeing the productionof these machines, tool and other mechanical devices and systems. Other devices mechanical engineers work on at the food court would be refrigeration, elevators and the sound system of the centre stages. • Electrical Engineer The electrical engineer designs the way electric is supplied to the food court, develop manufacturing by doing calculations and supervising the manufacture, installation, operation and maintenance of electrical systems. They work on systems for the generation, distribution, utilisation and controlof electric power. They also work with the program manager in order to ensure the food court meets the satisfactory requirement. In case of complications, Electrical engineers have to investigate complaints from customers of the food court and evaluate problem to recommend solutions • Sanitary Engineer The sanitary engineer designs and directs construction and operation of hygienic projects such as sewage, garbage and trash disposal, drainage systems in order to increase the overall cleanliness of the food court to prevent the spreading of disease.
  • 42. • Program Manager The project managers ensure the project is completed on time and within budget, that the project's objectives are met and that everyone else is doing their job properly. Project managers oversee the project to ensure the desired result is achieved, the most efficient resources are used and the different interests involved are satisfied.
