2. SUPREMES
• The Supremes are a well
known trio from Detroit,
Michigan. They were the
premier act of Motown
record in the 1950’s and
became the most popular
Girl group of their time.
They produced soul music
which they used to touch
the hearts of many
women, they especially
appealed to the African
American race as they
were one of the leading
black groups in the US.
The Supremes show the
difference between old
time music and modern
music.

3. Target audience
• The main difference
between old and new music
is the Target audience. In the
present time Girl groups are
usually targeted at teens,
however, The Supremes
were idea for the young-
mature adult audience.
Songs like ‘Baby love’ and
‘where did our love go’ are
two strong examples that the
types of music that female
trios produce are similar but
The Supremes show through
costume and advertisement
through the record label how
the target audience have
changed even though the
type of music produced has
remain the same.

4. Type of music video
• The music video wasn’t as
popular during the 50’s and
60’s but a few music videos
that have been produced for
The Supremes are strictly
Performance showing the
band perform to a live
audience. This is because the
music was more important
than the affect on the public
or the amount of fans
gained. I think this helped
the music industry and
record labels today because
they can use techniques
from examples like the
Supremes to produce girl
bands .

5. Influences
• There have been some clear
influence’s on bands. Groups
such as Destiny’s child and TLC
have adopted their style and
used it to enhance their own
band performances. Beyoncé
Knowles Of destiny’s child even
starred in ‘Dreamgirls’ which is a
film based on the Supremes
themselves. This can help with
creating our girl band as we can
incorporate some of the
elements from The Supremes
live performances and
performance music video’s.

6. Overall
• My group and I can use the style and
performance techniques to help produce the
music video. We could also use some of the
conventions and challenge or develop them to
create something new that would appeal to
the target audience. From The research into
how old music videos influence new music
videos, my group can I can research more
groups and incorporate their styles into our
work to create something new.
