Amtrak -: 08/2010 - 05/2012
21 month(s) Server / Storage Consolidation & Migration Architect
Project Description: Amtrak hired IBM to consolidate the old servers in their datacenters to
new virtualization environment, there are approx 740 servers with 530TB of data running on
operating system Windows, Linux and AIX servers.
Nature of project is server virtualization, consolidation and migration. It involves replacing
old/legacy computing systems with new one and merging small computing units with one
large computing system like-for-like (means same vendor and version). This would in turn
reduce the administrative, operating, licensing and operational costs for the customer while
providing a more robust and scalable computing environments. It allows multiple virtual
servers, with heterogeneous operating systems to run in isolation, side-by-side on the same
physical machine.
Project Contribution:
As a Migration Specialist at Onsite ( USA) and was involved in all the phases of project life
cycle. Study phase, Planning Phase , Designing phase and Implementation phase. I was

AVIS -: 10/2009 - 07/2010
10 month(s) Wintel and UNIX Migration Lead
Project Description: The ultimate goal of this project is to migrate the Windows, Linux and
Solaris servers and the Database data of the applications running on them from the
customer’s location to the IBM data center.
I was working as Wintel and UNIX Migration Engineer and provided technical support to the
project by building the target servers using Platespin Migrate, VMware Converter, FLAR
from the NAS device.
Project Contribution: As Wintel and UNIX Migration lead, I came up with the process,
which goes like:
• Migrate the windows and Linux OS using Platespin Migrate and VMware Converter
• After installing OS from FLAR on Solaris servers,
• Created disk groups using VERITAS volume manager.
• Created volumes on the SAN device attached to the target servers.
• Created VERITAS file system on the target server and
• Mounted the VERITAS file system to accommodate the database data to the respective
locations using rsync tool.
RSYNC tool helps in syncing the database data from the NAS device. This is the
implementation area of the system life cycle. Once we make the target server ready with OS
and databases up and running on them we handover the server to other team (ITD) for further
quality testing and to ensure the target server is good to give back to client.
By adhering the above process we are able to migrate the Solaris servers and data to the IBM
datacenter which fulfills the client’s requirement. This process requires specialist skills of
Solaris administration, Solaris Migration tools and technology like FLAR, VERITAS volume
Manager, RSYNC tool for data syncing which I have from my previous projects and
experience.
Environment: Microsoft Windows, Linux, Solaris, Platespin Migrate, FLAR, VMware
Converter, and Rsync.

Team Size: 60 AVIS -: 10/2009 - 07/2010 10 month(s) Wintel and UNIX Migration Lead Project Description: The ultimate goal of this project is to migrate the Windows, Linux and Solaris servers and the Database data of the applications running on them from the customer’s location to the IBM data center. I was working as Wintel and UNIX Migration Engineer and provided technical support to the project by building the target servers using Platespin Migrate, VMware Converter, FLAR from the NAS device. Project Contribution: As Wintel and UNIX Migration lead, I came up with the process, which goes like: • Migrate the windows and Linux OS using Platespin Migrate and VMware Converter • After installing OS from FLAR on Solaris servers, • Created disk groups using VERITAS volume manager. • Created volumes on the SAN device attached to the target servers. • Created VERITAS file system on the target server and • Mounted the VERITAS file system to accommodate the database data to the respective locations using rsync tool. RSYNC tool helps in syncing the database data from the NAS device. This is the implementation area of the system life cycle. Once we make the target server ready with OS and databases up and running on them we handover the server to other team (ITD) for further quality testing and to ensure the target server is good to give back to client. By adhering the above process we are able to migrate the Solaris servers and data to the IBM datacenter which fulfills the client’s requirement. This process requires specialist skills of Solaris administration, Solaris Migration tools and technology like FLAR, VERITAS volume Manager, RSYNC tool for data syncing which I have from my previous projects and experience.
