Matthew 5:1-11 Luke 6:17-261 When Jesus saw the crowds, 17 He came down with themhe went up the mountain; and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from Judea, all Judea, Jerusalem and the coast of Tyre and Sidon. 18They had come to hear him and to be healed from their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. 19 And all in the crowd were trying to touch him, for power came out from him and he healed all of them.and after he sat down,his disciples came to him. 20 Then he looked up at his disciples2 Then he began to speak,and taught them, saying, and said,3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, “Blessed are you who are poor,for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens. for yours is the kingdom of God.4 Blessed are those who mourn, |<21b Blessed are you who weep now,for they will be comforted. for you will laugh.5 Blessed are the meek,for they will inherit the earth.6 Blessed are those who hunger |<21a Blessed are you who are hungryand thirst for righeousness now,for they will be filled for you will be filled7 Blessed are the merciful,for they will receive mercy.8 Blessed are the pure in heart,for they will see God.9 Blessed are the peacemakers,for they will be called the children ofGod.10 Blessed are those who are persecutedfor righteousness sake,for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.11 Blessed are you when people revile 22 Blessed are you when people hateyou, you,and persecute you, and when they exclude you, revile you,and utter all kinds of evil against you and defame youfalsely on my account. on account of the Son of ManRejoice and be glad, 23 Rejoice in that day and leap for joy,for your reward is great in the for surely your reward is great in
heavens, heaven;for in the same way, they persecuted for that is what their ancestors did tothe prophets the prophets.who were before you. (cf. Luke 6:20) 24 But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. (cf. Luke 6:21a) |<25 Woe to you who are full now, for you will be hungry. (cf. Luke 6:21b) |<Woe to you who are laughing now, for you will mourn and weep. (cf. Luke 6:23) 26 Woe to you when all speak well of you, for that is what their ancestors did to the the false prophets.
