2. The U symbol stands for Universal and it means it is suitable for
anyone but mainly over the age of four. It is easily predictable of what
kind of images will appear in a U movie. U contains no blood, violence
and sexual activity, as it only contains mainly cartoon like images such
as Teletubbies.
This will always be either a happy movie, as none of them are horrific
because of the age restriction.

PG stands for Parental Guidance and this is suitable for normal age
groups but some scenes may be unsuitable for the younger age
group as it could possibly contain mild or bad language.
If you are not the appropriate age to watch a PG movie then you
will most like need guidance of someone who is at the age of 18 or
above. A PG-rated film may not be suitable for children. PG-rated
should be checked out by parents before allowing younger children
to see the movie. There could be some violence, or brief nudity,
however there will not be any drug use in a PG film

4. A 12 or 12A means that anyone the age of 12 or over can watch it
without being accompanied by an adult or supervision.
If you are under the age of 12 then you will need to be ‘accompanied’
by an adult.
Sexual activity may be implied such as sexual references but it will all
be verbal and not physically shown. There is a possibility of bad
language and racism.
The adult supervision is appropriate as it shows that someone with
more responsibility is with the younger person whilst watching the 12A
movie.

Its very simple with an age 15 film as no on under the age of 15 is
allowed to watch the film. In most cases you will be asked for ID if
you do not look the correct age. 15 rated films are not suitable for
children or anyone under 15 years of age. This is mainly because it
contains strong violence, sexual activity and nudity, drug taking and
discriminating behavior.
Now in the 21st century, 15 age rated movies have become explicit
just quite similarly like 18 age rated movies, this is why it is crucial
to only watch a 15 rated movie if you are only the age of 15 or over.

6. 18 rated films are only appropriate for 18 year olds and adults. No one
under the age of 18 is allowed to view a 18 film at the cinema unless
they are approved of it. This is mainly because it contains very strong
violence, strong horror with blood and gore. This also contains real
sexual scenes and sexual violence. It is quite similar to 15 but is more
stronger on the explicit images. This will not be suitable for anyone
unless they are 18 or over. The sturdiest images appear in an 18 rated
film and a lot of drug take may be included.

7. R18 is a category that contains special and legally restricted explicit
images that covers sex or strong fetish material involving adults. Only
some cinemas are licensed to show R18 movies. These are mostly
sold in sex shops.
This is not suitable for anyone as it is restricted 18 only, which means
only adults can view them as they contain sexually abusive activity.

8. The reason we have these certifications are to ensure children are
protected and kept away from different graphical images that aren’t
suitable for their age. This could mentally mess them up. Every film is
examined in order to see which category of age it should be put under,
this is done in many ways by how violent it is, if it contains sexual
activity or unsuitable material. An age restriction is put on because if
we didn’t have any certification of age then anyone would go into any
movie that may or may not be suitable for their age, this is a concern
as they wouldn’t be ready for viewings like that as they aren’t old
enough. This is why we have certifications in movies, to prevent
people from viewing what they can’t see yet.
