1. Because the age ratings to the
films I looked at are between 12A
– 18, I will need to look at what is
included in these age
certificates…
2. What’s included in a …
• A 12/12A can have swearing but it needs not happen frequently.
• Sex can be discreet in 12/12As
• Moderate injuries can be shown , the gore cannot be emphasised.
• Weapons may be shown but they cannot be made to look good.
• Dangerous behaviour such as suicide could be shown but it wont be
shown for long so no viewers would copy the behaviour.
• The difference between these two certificates is that the 12 is for
DVD’s only and the 12A is for films at the cinema.
3. • There is no limit on the amount of swearing allowed in a
15
• There might be discriminatory language but it won’t be
endorsed
• Sexual activity can be shown in a 15 it just can’t go in to
too much detail
• Any nudity can be shown.
• Violence can be shown in a 15 but it can’t dwell on injury
• There can be verbal sexual violence
• Drug taking can be shown but the film cannot promote it.
• There is no limit on normal swear words or strong swear
words in an 18.
• Discriminatory language can be used and the theme could
also be related to it.
• There are no restrictions on nudity or sexual activity in an
18
• Violence can be shown in very strong detail.
• Drug taking can be shown in an 18 but the film still cannot
promote the use of them.
