Why do you give?
Answer
301 month plus larger amounts form time to time

As a seva and to keep the energy going; also to support our communal goals and processes.
to fund my Dharma; to build prosperity.
My blessing.....give to God what belongs to God...
To the Guru
As a Sikh, I like to give dasvandh.
I give to gurdakshina.
I also give generously to the library of the teachings, to environmental groups and very generously to my local food bank, public tv and radio,
also to Sikh net , Sikh coalition and oxfam
I feel these are all forms of dasvandh

I answered question 4 based on dasvandhAs giving that I do but not capital D
why not:), seriously I do it because I believe in the work you do
In gratitude, to give something back for the teachings.

To further the dissemination of the teachings.
not sure
Out of graditude to Yogi Bhajan, too support his mission of spreading the teachings.
1. Good for the Dharma
2. Leaves space for more money and prosperity to fill in.
3. Good practice for one like Sadhana
4. Not just Sikh, but universal rule
5. Becomes a vacuum for many good things to happen
Believe in the teachings of Dasvandh as taught by the Siri Singh Sahib.
Seeding the infinite...giving without expectation of return but at the same time opening myself for it to come back to me 10 times!!
Activation of the Universal Law to give a portion of what I have received. I have seen my income TRIPLE when I gave consistently. AM going to start giving regularly again!
good vibes
i SHOULD GIVE MORE. IT DOESN'T BELONG TO ME. BELONGS TO GURU.
Das Vandh is giving 1/10th to that which inspires you. It does not mean only Sikh Dharma Das Vandh. what about Hacienda de Guru Ram Das, that inspires me. The Gurdwaras, sadhana, and the sangat inspire me.
I love this Dharma
I haven't been. Since moving here I haven't been able to even make ends meet & am going into debt using my credit cards. I gave $1,700. For the legal fund & am anxious to get it back. Will the re-embersments be coming soon?
I have NOT given because I have not had enough to take care of us. When I do, I will.
10 percent does not belong to me
I like supporting whenever I feel I can
Because it is the right thing to do - it feels right to me. I actually love giving DV.
Because I support spreading this lifestyle and these teachings.
My connection to the Guru deepens. Others gain access to the Dharm and the teachings.
To conquer the Unknown, Increase my prosperity and build a foundation for future generations.
Duty/Obligation/want to/etc
I place my ten percent before the Guru, where it does not count as the official Dasvandh, but is how and where I naturally prefer to give.
Mostly I give to Hacienda Ram Das $100 a month through automated paypall. I give additional monies to other of the 3HO related entities (i.e. Legal Fund, KRI, GRD Center for M & H, etc.) as additional funds for giving become available to me. I give
because all things come from God, so I am just the steward of the money. YB & KY changed my life!
it feels good, it works, it makes good sense
Because I like to support the dharma when I can.
Q5 does not make sense. Yes I give (regularly) - there is no way to answer that.
I prefer electronic fund transfer as that makes it easy.

I feel I have an obligation to the Dharma
Local Sangat
I do not give 2 the "Dasvandh" committee but I give Dasvandh here locally in my own community. I've been guided 2 offer my time &service 2the local community, ev week. I give because it feels important 2share my gifts, my wealth, my bounty & I
know that that which I give returns a thousand fold. It's our duty 2care for those in greater need.
SSS shared that it's a universal law. Give 10% and get 10 fold back.
because it hooks up to god and guru and source and completes the circle of giving and being given to
My teacher said it would benefit me and my family. He has been correct in all other things he has told me so he is correct in this area as far as I am concerned.
all is EkOngKar
Its a cosmic law and it is rightous act to confirm we are One.
It's a rare opportunity
To feed the source and thank the opportunity to access this technology.
I give dasvandh locally here in South Africa. Our currency is so devalued against the US Dollar that it is pointless sending it across there, it simply loses too much value - better the value is utilised here.
To support the dharma.
I accept everythin comes to Infinity; Dasvandh belongs to the Guru
I give every month. I give because the Siri Singh Sahib presented Dasvand as our spiritual obligation.
I give to support what I believe in and to promote community growth.
for the pleasure to give and to belong
I support local charities in my hometown and Yoga West when I can.
Sense of importance.
To give back for all that has been given to us, to serve all and in responibility to the dharma.

My husband and I give out of deep gratitude for the blessings of this Dharma and all the teachings. The way we divide it up is I'm in charge of the local contributions to our community growth fund, langar, prashad etc. and he gives to Dasvandh.
I donate because I have heard about many wonderful experiences of doing so. Although my income is limited, my heart says "yes" to Dasvandh!
i've been Giving to the lawsuit because it needed the support, and i've been giving to SDW in general because these ladies basically got fired from their dharmic jobs, and had to go rouge (legally) and they need support.
Because I feel really inspired and touched by the teachings and the sangat.
to support the outreach efforts of Sikh Dharma
Giving is good.
because the Siri Singh Sahib taught us dasvandh technology and we've been giving ever since
To support the Dharma
supporting the unknown and being supported by the unknown
Love DV.
Because it's the only way to write a thank you note to God.
I give money to Miri Piri and to Sikhnet
I give of my time to community activites
he said so
Duty
All the great religions have a teaching about 10% back to God. I learned it from others before SSS, who confirmed it. I make giving a routine so that I don't 'think' about the money that could go somewhere else. I believe the teachings and give monthly
but don't actually practice much beyond ensuring 10% of intake is given back.
Whenever I feel abundant.
because I do believe in the theory of dasvandh.
I want to help Sikh Dharma to continue its service.
Because I receive. I believe in what we call Ayni in the Andean world.
Please see what follows:
When I am able, I give because I can. That's it.
to help particular causes ... or express gratitude for receiving help in specific instances ...
I give to help out. I generally give most of my money to people I see in need--on the street. I also sponsor a child through Children's International. I also have given to Yoga for Youth fairly often. I've given to Dasvandh at Solstice, but unfortunately it
drops out of my awareness after I leave.
habit of a lifetime, and I do find it makes money flow better into my life
It feels righteous (and that's good).
I give because of the blessings I receive.
To serve
I give to support preserving the teachings of the Siri Singh Sahib for us and future generations. I give to serve.

I give when I am blessed with a way to earn money that I feel is mine--ie. "specific example". Everything I made I gave to the Legal Defense Fund.
It is in giving that we can open ourself to receive. Otherwise we become like a stagnant pool, nothing moves!
I want to share and help with what I am able. Feel its important to give back.
commitment
I give monthly on an automatic draw.

I believe it's the right [eous] thing to do.
because Yogi Bhajan told us :)
Because prosperity is a matter of energy flow.
I like to keep myself open to opportunities to grow and know that contributing to those people or projects that matter to me is participating in keeping the flow strong.
Because this is supporting the Family I love
I have for over 30 years.
I give to MPA, because I want my contribution to support the youth, the school and the future. I believe MPA is the most important institution we have.
What would inspire more?
Answer
that's a BIG question!!!
You are asking for the secret to spirit
Knowing how the funds were being dispersed/what they were being used for
Needs of the dharma; maybe an increase in the funds available to me.
I'm about to start giving 11%.
Expanded Sikh organization, with functioning programs, a clear vision and realistic strategic and business plan, serving the global constituency and those in need with the teachings and values of Guru Nanak through Guru Gobind Singh, the Siri Guru
Granth Sahib and the Siri Singh Sahib ji.
Not sure where the money goes
:) A big paycheck!
inspiration and goals
Having a larger income.
As my income increases I give more
An accounting on where the money goes and who it helps
More faith. Less fear.
knowing people that could come up with a better questionaire than this was working for the Dharma. Going with Christian, almost Baptist theme is so not Sikh Dharma.
Earning more! Perhaps doing a little less seva related projects. I do so much for so many that it has reduced me to a non-profit and that is not good for giving more. It's not just about being organized, but saying no or saying I need to be paid or not do
things that seem important but have less than it takes for me to remain solvent.
Increased income.
Nothing. The legal issues have me questioning who to give money to.
A deeper experience of the Divine Design
GETTING OVER FEAR OF NOT HAVING ENOUGH
The end of the lawsuits, the shift in the consciousness of the sangat to be able to forgive the thieves and betrayers. No more us and them.
When I make more, I give more
When I have more then enough to spare and share.
Full disclosure. I used to give 10 percent to Das Vandh. I lowered it a lot and started giving to other organizations that have full disclosure. When I recently discovered the Bhai Sahiba's salary was cut I increased a little to contribute to her salary.
Sangat should be apprised of expenses.
Have more income
If I had more income, I would give more. At this time I give to DV, legal fund and community growth fund at Hacienda de Guru Ram Das, Espanola. This comes out to more than 10% of my income and that is all I can afford.
If we had full time jobs and regular income.
Having more to give.
More income
Have SDWW show all assets; how much is taken in and where the $ goes. Salaries of all employees.
Time to open up folks!
More stories and programs - outreach
The more money I earn, the more I give.
Making more $.
a pay raise.
I'm giving the amount that feels right right now.
If I had more disposible, I'd give more.
Currently I am living off savings and not earning more than my keep. As this shifts I will certainly be able to give more.
To see that it's being used to fund incredible projects. And that the organizations it funds were organized and managed in an efficient manner. Key word may be accountability.
Getting more, but that is up to the universe.
Inspiration
Definate projects. Temple of Steel.
Have more incoming
It is kind of like out of sight, out of mind.
If more communications were sent to me about Das Vandh and the technology of Giving, as well as
HOW to get signed up and start giving that would be inspiring.
Getting annual reports about what Das Vandh funds are actually being used for.
Stories
I do not have any answer here.
I tend to give directly to the sangat in specific purposes than just in flat contributions to Dasvandh for SDW. I did enjoy the one telecourse I participated in.
a specific project
n/a
Results... seeing the money in action. Thats what it is all about. Also financial... annual report... the new paradigm.
If I felt a stronger mission of how Sikh Dharma is going to serve on this planet at this time. Some monies I used to give to SD, I now give other places in the dharma where I want to support the service. I honor SD for the fighting the fight with great
integrity, just want to feel the mission too.
When I have more to give, I give locally. I know my husband does the same. I do automatic transfer of funds, but he isn't comfortable with that, he has his own formula for working out his donations. Id there were a request for more, regarding
something specific that touches us, we would give more.
Having a larger disposable income.
now that the lawsuit is over i would hope that that SDW does some globally impactful work, like stewarting the SGGS translation project which seems to be at a standstill. or some other project. i never really knew what they did before.
To have not so many financial problems on my own.
I don't need to be inspired to give if I had enough money to give.
To earn more.
if we received realistic statements quarterly explaining how the money is being used
receiving the message from my infinite self to do so
My own self discipline. Learning how to be more disciplined.
I do not need more inspiration
nothing comes to mind, open to exploring
Not sure
Having more.
Be more connected with my destiny.
When my financial responsibilities lessen.
To have a regular income. Living in Peru in the Sacred Valley my income is extremely limited. Most of the classes I offer are in kind donation of my time and knowledge. My husband and I are developing a Retreat+Education Center, it takes lots of
work and faith to continue. Visit www.sacredvalleyretreatbb.com
Currently, giving to Das Vandh SDW (SDI in the past) is like, has been like, sending something into an informational-administrative black hole. "I/We" give money, others (in high positions of organizational authority) decide what to do with it.
Occasionally we receive a newsletter with feel good stories about the wonders of Das Vandh. See below:
... for example, could you possibly help us with what Yogi Bhajan taught us to do every day? It's been said, "It would take 72 hours to do what Yogi Bhajan taught us to do every day." We are planning a 12 week series on this topic and are looking for
what he told us to do every day.
For Dasvandh, I would give more (and more often), if I knew more about how the money is spent. This would be inspiring not only as far as giving more, but also how to live my life, as a 3HO person.
More income!
I am not making money teaching yet
Knowing how the money is spent....
Awareness of need inspires me to give. What is our situation with paying our lawyers? I now get a wee bit of Social Security and use it to seed classes and to give. With a husband who is not a Sikh, I am not in a position to give 10% of our joint
income--though Ron was generous during the fight in letting me give.
If I brought in more money I would give more.
Meaningful quotes or photos of Siri S. Sahib
or Guru Nanak.
if I would earn more
when I feel that the dharma that has sustained me for so many years is in need of financial help with legal expenses
More income = on a fixed retirement income
Earn more income.
Clarity of purpose.
Dasvandh Story?
Answer
I've always had serious issues with money, probably due to my family of origin's very small income and many pressures on my parents including a very sick child and aging parents. In giving to dasvandh I've been able to overcome this to a large
degree. Also, I've come to realize that there is more to world than just ME, and that if I am to be my best self I must serve in whatever ways I am given to know. Dasvandh is one of those ways.
I've already given one on tape.
Law of the Universe....I always count on giving to secure prosperity....and to support Divine work...
26 reps of 33 rd pauri were a very sigficant booster of the flow of prosperity for me

I am now doing Basant Ki var
Giving is a very sacred thing and when you come across this crass you may think you are 'with the times' or 'astute business people' but really you come across so de classe. Frankly I am ashamed to give to a group of people so crude that think they
are so clever when they shake me down. If you really want to prosper please try to have a higher vibration. If you don't know what I mean, then I certainly don't know what to say.
My life is blessed. I am a Happy Man.
Dasvandh works. During the depression a very rich man would go out to the streets giving away dimes. He would think one dollar for himself each time giving away that dime. It's true. Universal truth.

I have given a great deal of time to the Dharma. Creating books, logos, marketing, advertising, photography. Was asked repeatedly by the SSS to create things. It was and is always inspiring to be of this service. Have worked for KRI for almost 40
years. But what I do in marketing, advertising and design doesn't have the same value to the Dharma as doctors, attorneys, business and sales.

Not so much an inspiring story as an explanation why Das Vandh is not a big as it should be. Lots like me and others like at KRI who are just not earning what we could.
I do not really have a story to share...
After a divorse, I had a lot of debt, which was incurred by my former husband and only my salary to pay minus my former husband's salary. I decided at that time to apply the seed book principal and started giving 10 percent of my "gross" off the top to
Das Vandh and then chipping away at debt and the rest of bills. I was always fine after that and paid off all debt plus increased prosperity every year since.
n/a
What I have received from giving to Das Vandh is not measurable in a ledger book. It goes far beyond "having" or "giving" or"sharing". It has never been about riches or poverty. I have what I have and desire no more. Being a Sikh is enough, in fact it
is more than enough. It is beyond my silly imagination to think that "more" would make either me or thee any happier. My riches, if they can be called that, allow me to continue to become what I am. I desire not a thing more (or less) and am placated
by my ability to understand what my teacher has given me. I do not contend that I am in complete agreement or complete understanding. Only I am here, working on this day, as I think I am supposed to do. Each day is a blessing, each penny a step
forward. God & Guru give me what I need and to the best of my ability I pass on as much as I can.
Dasvandh definitely works!
it never "worked" but I not expected it to "work" anyway. I gave for the pleasure to give. Everything belongs to the Guru and will return to the Guru

We don't want to ask people to give so they will get something back for themselves. That is selfish giving, and this kind of ask promotes that selfish thinking. People want to give because they want to get behind your work. That is selfless giving. It
feels good to give to something because we participate in that project. I would honestly forget all these psudo inspirational stories. We have heard them for years and years, and frankly they are so boring by now. Sure.. some is fine. Here and there.
But its hopefully not THE reason to donate. Now, without the SSS we need to show what we are doing, that the money is getting results, and why those results are important and why they should trust SDW.
No particular story - just that my life - despite whatever is happening financially is always covered by the Guru's Grace.

I don't have a specific story regarding Dasvandh; everything that we do works! My life is transformed by all the teachings and the Siri Guru Granth Sahib. The closest thing I have to a dasvandh story is years ago living in Mexico City when I was a
poor traveller and yoga student, I went to the Basilica of Guadalupe and I was so moved by the devotion of the people and all the stories of healing, that I gave my last $20 or so to one of the donation boxes...I wasn't yet a Sikh but I was living in the
ashram there and had been told about the power of giving...Literally a few days later the major earthquake of 1985 struck and devastation ensued. My dear friend who was a priest travelled to Mexico City to check on the relatives of his parish and to
check on me as well and he told me of all the donations that had poured in from the people who were so concerned. He ended up giving me about $200 of the cash, which was a tremendous windfall for me at that point in my life! Wahe Guru!
Non at the moment.
i just feel content knowing that i'm following the Guru's teachings. i don't have a specific inspiring story but i feel that opportunities come to me and my family when we need them, and i feel totally taken care of.
Nothing specific.
I have always trusted this aspect of the technology and have always been supported by it, regardless of numbers or calculations or figures on paper.
I've already shared several, but suffice it to say, I'm a housewife with two published books, a paid mortgage, a happy marriage to a non-Sikh, etc. I attribute much of that to Dasvandh.
Something I learned from former DV Director Atma Kaur. My money was so tight then I really didn't have 10% to give and meet the landlord and utility bills. She asked if I could afford $11/month. I said yes. She said do that, get in the system (EFT) and
that way I would be in das vandh. I have never forgotten that and always been grateful. At the time I saw it as all or nothing and she said just give what you can even if it is not 10%. I upped it to $27 when I could and finally got a job that made me feel
comfortable about the 10% (of net) and have maintained it ever since.
I don't have any stories, but I do feel it is important, and I have never wanted for basics since I have started to give regularly, but that doesn't mean I have had as much as I have wanted!
I gave my head. The Guru has given me a life that is a completely blessed life.

But the Guru did not give me permission to lose my head, or separate my heart's generosity away from intelligent engagement and participation.

What more needs to be said?
... for example, we set aside an evening's tuition for donation after what took place last year:

On 11-1-11, we taught about Yogi Bhajan's headstone and his inclusion of the concept of "One" [11-1-11 ... lots of #1's that day]. There was generous help on this topic, and a miracle took place. Folks in New Mexico shared about the headstone.
Then, while driving on El Camino Real here in California, as I was sharing on the speaker phone with my friend Kathy about my "ah-hah" moment of realization about the headstone, a car changed lanes, pulled right in front of me, and confirmed my
headstone insight with the license plate "INFINITI". As if that were not enough - as I was 'ooohing and aaahing' to Kathy about that which was transpiring before my eyes - I turned the corner and stopped at an electric light with another car right in
front of me. The license plate on this car? ... "YOGI"!
Being generous has always brought me great prosperity and happiness. It's like a magic formula for attracting the Universe's caring embrace.
Here's a short one:
When I sit down to the monthly bills there isn't always anything left for Dasvandh. But if I just write the check anyway, the money shows up within a few days to a few weeks at most (and it rarely takes that long).
Not directly Dasvandh, but here is a story. When the Siri Singh Sahib led the Yantra to India (1993 I believe)we had not been able to visit for some time and the opportunity arose very suddenly. We had just bought a computer and done some
traveling, I simply didn't have any more money to go. Yet when I bowed my head before the Guru, the desire came over me to go so great that I broke out in sobs. I made flyers offering to teach Kundalini Yoga and had a garage sale to raise money. I
gave flyers to everyone I had contact with--neighbors, car pool friends from my son's school, people at the bank and the grocery store. I found people I would never have guessed that were interested and became yoga students. My husband was
embarrassed by all of this and when the garage sale didn't raise much and the yoga class money also wasn't enough, he suddenly said that we had some money we could use for me to go. He said, "You always say that God is going to take care of
everything but it is
My husband and I have always given to dasvandh ever since we got married. Whenever Yogi Bhajan asked for donations for some of the students going to India we gave. We were not wealthy in financial means then nor now. We gave out of
obedience to our spiritual teacher, Yogi Bhajan.

Over the years we have not been doing well financially. However when there is a situation where funds are needed somehow through the grace of God the funds have come through.

The gift of being able to send our son to India was phenomenal for us. We had virtually no viable income and the Guru came through for us.

Sometimes I have worried over the finances and a lot of other issues, and yet time and time again the Guru comes through. The key for me is to believe in myself, believe in the teachings.

In order to keep the legacy and teachings of Yogi Bhajan we need to live them. Teachings that are not lived are forgotten which results in ignorance. Is that what we want?
I have never been in financial dire straits.
Suggestions?
Answer
I am thinking of "chicken soup for the soul" type of book on dasvand....stories like that.
I like them when the stories a bit more spiritual and genuine rather than simplistic ...some new innovation is certainly needed -
It will take a team, a really inspired and hardworking team to make this happen.
And there is got to be something it it for the team as well, rather than another karma yoga job....I had spoken a while back about creating success weekends - where we have the team of inspired people give workshops on how to make money, how to
make it in business... really well, like some of these management I & many others have paid thousands for over the years.
A once or twice a year Dasvand camp... Prosperity camp: model it after a successful management camp & get 7 3Ho folks that teach about $ and link it all to dasvandt

It's a bit out of my domain. Being open about how the money is used, promoting prosperity technology, having some sort of question/answer process. I think being very transparent about financial matters, particularly at this time, is very important.

Keep it coming!
surveys are good
Let people know how much money is donated, where the money goes and how it helps others
Find someone like Ravi Kaur (Avtar Hari's wife) to work for you. Someone who has some style and some grace. Other wise it is hard to know when you are trying to raise money and when you really care....
I have a rectangular metal key fob that looks like steel with the Mangala Charn mantra is on it. It reminds me to do the chant each time I start the car. It is also a tool to show others the protection mantra. And it reminds me of the SSS, Sikh Dharma,
God, etc every time I use keys.

For Das Vandh I would use this same fob with a reference to Das Vandh / Sikh Dharma / Adi Shakti on the other side. It would remind people to chant the mantra, share the mantra and give Das Vandh. Every time keys are used. Multiple times per
day. Instead of a sometimes cheesy cup or shirt. Create a Das Vandh reminder that's useful long term.

An option could be to have return postage on it. Lost keys are dropped in a post box and sent to Das Vandh. This sends a message that Das Vandh takes care of the participant.

Based on my experience in marketing, branding and design, this kind of a premium is very effective. If nicely done it becomes key jewelry.
Bless You!...Keep reminding me/us of this science of applied prosperity!!
KEEP UP!
Promote a consciousness shift to be inclusive, no more us and them, and teach the. sangat how to forgive
can you please make the moneies collected and spent public. post it on your web site.

it would be nice where the money goes. what is your management overhead. what projects you are supporting. who makes the deciisions.
Full disclosure. With all my heart, I want to give my 10 percent to Das Vandh again, instead of other charities. But I do not trust that the people receiving the salaries that Das Vandh pays for are acting in the Sangat's interest, rather than their own.
Why was the salary of the Bhai Sahbia cut? Did the Bhai Sahiba fail to do her job or something wrong that the Sangat needs to know about? Why do I have to contribute separate, additional money to pay for the salary of the Bhai Sahiba? Why can't I
just pay my 10 percent to Das Vandh and trust that the funds will properly cover our Sikh Dharma expenses, which include an Office of the Bhai Sahiba. What decisions are being made about incurring future legal expenses? Will the Sangat be
apprised and allowed to give input?
Thank you. Infinite blessings.
I am giving to Pritham Kaur for her cancer fight and so should the whole dharma
The more PR about DV the better. I think there are a lot of places to donate so people don't or can't give as much to DV as they would like.
You do an awesome job just keep up.
Keep up!!
Nothing, other than to keep up.
This is a great idea to have a survey!

Don't push so hard that it UN-inspires people to give.

It would also help if I thought the board and people running SDW were listening to the feedback that's being given about being more inclusive etc. I fully trust that staff have dedicated themselves to the Dharma and it's protection but it sometimes feels
"elitest" - that my input or my views don't count - that I'm not considered "worthy enough". I also think there are other voices like mine that are not as "loud" as some you might hear on the SOD chat line, that are not being sought out.

Also, I admit it bothers me that - just because I haven't taken minister vows, I'm viewed as "less than" or not even worthy of a vote, even though I've lived the lifestyle for almost 40 years.

I've chosen to give back and serve the Sangat in a different way. I'm fully dedicated to the SSSji's teachings and their preservation, which is why I spend my "free time" volunteering for KRI. It's where I feel I can give most.
Sat Nam,

Perhaps rather than this digital communication media, consider another very subtle and personal way of delving deep into the hearts, minds, souls and life realities of others, regarding giving, sacrificing and this most sensitive subject of their profound
relationship with the Infinite Beloved within themselves and their Dharma. This means perhaps a network of monk-like emissaries and teachers, representing this most humble and noble cause, going real-time from village-to-village, house-to-house,
head in hands with Guru's blessings, sitting down to a warm cup of tea, having a very real, heart-to-heart talk, and winning the heart, mind and soul of the other. Then, enlist that person to do the same in the Divine Chain, thus mastering giving and
Das Vandh via teaching and living as an example. Maybe call it "The Das Vandh Walk"! I would love for someone to come and talk to me personally like this.

With Love and Gratitude
see above
find some wonderful projects for dasvandh to fund. you could even have a donation based niwas at the ashram in guru ram das that is run entirely by seva. this could include veggie gardens with things to be done by sevadars/volunteers/ helping
visitors.
there's got to be something for mohala (for nothing) as we say here in africa. that to me also embodies the spirit of dasvandh.
give people a chance on your site to select what their dasvandh must go to - e.g.various projects, say, library of the sss, beautifying of the ashram gardens, building a crystal labyrinth or a gazebo for a baba siri chand shrine, building a khalsa old age
home - i'm just pulling stuff out of my hat here, just ideas.
secondly, some areas appear grey and perhaps people feel it is too vague.e.g. despite the fact that he has put his noise out of joint with the community, apparently guru chander is still sitting with a huge amount of ashram funds. so create healing and
dialogue and clarity, it's essential!

Create regular reports describing what Das Vandh funds are used for. Let's make TRANSPARANCY one of our Khalsa values.
Perhaps you might ask: Why don't you give? Those Sikhs who are no longer part of the 3HO organization like myself, but who were a part of it for many years - feel - why give to an organization which treated me and my loved ones so badly? Why
support an organization of members who look down on the Indian Sikhs and some members of the 3HO community who don't practice exactly like the SSS taught. Yet, when I knew the SSS he never personally talked to me about a dogmatic way of
life. He himself was Indian, yet members of the organization married my soon to be ex husband at Solstice - before our divorce decree was finalized and legal and refused to help me have a wedding in our local Gurdwara because later on I was
remarrying a Punjabi man. And I am supposed to support an organization which has done these things? Yes, they are long in the past - but no amends were ever made.
Give specific actions to support such as...give this amount to sponsor someone to attend a meeting, give this amount to purchase a new computer for the officers, etc. It's more tangible to see what's going where. It's not a fun job asking for money
and I admire your commitment!
describe specific project about spreading the teachings
The idea of inspiring people by saying they "should" give 10 percent does not work. What works is to get people involved, interested and inspired by you are going to do with their money. People want to make a difference in the world, That, instilling
change, supporting an organization that is doing things someone believes in and wants to get behind, is the biggest motivator for giving. In my opinion, SDW needs to express the goals of SDW... over and over agin. Why SDW is important in the
world... what are the long term benefits. How are you using the money. If that is a moral no no, I would really work to move past that. Its a new age. Be proud of our finances and put them on the table. People need this. And without the SSS as the
factor that gave everything trust we have to find new ways to establish trust. And that usually means everything is above board that can be. Be proud. And then.. motivate with the short term projects. People give when they see a specific need with
urgency.
God bless you for checking in.
More details on how the money is spent, managed, goals...in short more of what you are doing!

Thank you for all your great work and many blessings!
No.
- project manage the SGGS translation project, get it ready for print in 2013.
- host all of the SSS teachings on Sikhism on your website. if it's just text, make it searchable. have video excerpts of him and post on youtube.
- print (on demand) an official SD nitnem and sundar gutka in different formats
- create a 'learn gurmukhi online' school
- make inspiring Sikhism videos and put them on youtube
- start a 'SikhiMint' like yogamint - weekly newsletter with brief and inspiring content.
- talk to SikhNet, we've got more project ideas than we can work on.
1. Donate money to programs of outreach. In 2006, the outreach office, office of communications, that the Siri Singh Sahib created in L.A. was canceled after the finances were cut. Since then, there has not been any financial support to keep this
important service to be continued, so that we can serve the world. I have always been baffled by this.

2. I think that it would be important to mention where the money goes; to what organization or what office. You don't have to mention how much, or perhaps just a percentage. This would allow the Sangat to make suggestions. Perhaps you are already
doing this?

3. I would suggest that next time you put out a survey, make it more friendly. What I mean by that, is that you start with an inspiring quote from the Siri Singh Sahib about Dasvandh. Perhaps next, you could write something inspiring about it as well.
My guess is that you probably know who gives and who doesn't, so why ask if you do.
Teach the technology to certified KY teachers.

We had it taken out automatically before the legal problems.
I would appreciate more specific communication abou the money and what is being do with it with the understanding that the amount being used for salaries would be revealed as a whole, not with specifics of who makes what.
Not at this time, thank you
Keep UP! :)
keep up
Keep up
Allow giving in multiple forms, and via every possible channel that's out there. And consider in kind giving as a form of DV. You may be doing this now...(I still write checks).

See story above. Some folks see 10% and panic. Others make elaborate excuses about who is managing the funds, etc rather than seeing the GIVING as key and being blessed for the intention. Try .01 percent to start, with goal of 10%. Emphasize
what efforts the money is funding. Understand that Guru said 10% of earnings to God. For me, that includes my ashram: 10% is Community Growth and DV combined. I do not give 10% to DV and CGF separately. Perhaps I would if I could but I feel I
am honoring Guru and the teachings by seeing both funds as my DV, since this ashram is still Guru's work.

Thank you.
Show where the funds go.
I like the mediations you share and Siri Singh Sahib's lectures.

My career experience in accounting began in 1976, at UCLA evening extension...... First principle taught there was "get the money information first, and FOLLOW THE MONEY." I'm now going to refer you back to the recent expression of need for
Dharmic (deciding) boards to be nested in and "overseen by" a larger, experienced body of Khalsa (from Khalsa Council), as direct constituency the boards are accountable to. Dharma moves forward by means of finance and Seva from its
membership, the Khalsa Sangat represents the humanity on whom Dharma depends for money and resources. Currently, boards don't consult with us PRIOR to major decisions, we receive announcements later about the will and the decisions of the
boards "on our behalf." This reduces "Us" to childlike status. The Palki that carries the Guru and Dharma must ride on adult shoulders of Sangat. Adults treated like children will withdraw support. Listen!
I don't have a suggestion, only a thought to share about my personal experience where donations have been in reverse order. That is, it wasn't a result of dasvandh that miracles took place, but as a result of miracles - aided and abetted by y'all - that
dasvandh took place.

Maybe it's not what Yogi Bhajan meant by dasvandh, so I humbly share my experience.

(This is apart from the percentage of tuition fees donated through our yoga studio.)
Sat Nam,

I think you all are doing a great job. My life partner gets your newsletter, which I love. It's just right--one page. And I love getting the meditations.

The only thing I recommend is an occasional brief paragraph or two with a photo showing how the money is spent.

Peace to all, Light to all, and Love to all.
(continuation of story) always me." Yes, God inspired him to give. Is God inspiring you to give to Dasvandh?

Suggestions: I do like stories of how Dasvandh has worked in people's lives. I also like meditations for prosperity and the group meditations. I also would like to see a financial report of our finances (if our lawyers think it is okay to do so)...how much
we've collected and where it has been spent. Thanks.
Show how as participants of Dasvandh we are contributing to better schooling for the MPA students, and exactly where the monies are going that we do contribute. How is our international sangat involved in helping others,ie free kitchens, teaching
yoga, etc? In other religions and organizations the members are given the opportunity to participate in helping in their communities. How does this translate back to the individual like myself?

What kind of programs can we do that will benefit others?
Keep supporting the process of inspiration.
Keep up your good work.
I don't contribute to USA Dasvandh but in Europe, together with my Guru Dakshina.

Dasvandh survey specific response data

  • 1. Why do you give? Answer 301 month plus larger amounts form time to time As a seva and to keep the energy going; also to support our communal goals and processes. to fund my Dharma; to build prosperity. My blessing.....give to God what belongs to God... To the Guru As a Sikh, I like to give dasvandh. I give to gurdakshina. I also give generously to the library of the teachings, to environmental groups and very generously to my local food bank, public tv and radio, also to Sikh net , Sikh coalition and oxfam I feel these are all forms of dasvandh I answered question 4 based on dasvandhAs giving that I do but not capital D why not:), seriously I do it because I believe in the work you do In gratitude, to give something back for the teachings. To further the dissemination of the teachings. not sure Out of graditude to Yogi Bhajan, too support his mission of spreading the teachings. 1. Good for the Dharma 2. Leaves space for more money and prosperity to fill in. 3. Good practice for one like Sadhana 4. Not just Sikh, but universal rule 5. Becomes a vacuum for many good things to happen Believe in the teachings of Dasvandh as taught by the Siri Singh Sahib. Seeding the infinite...giving without expectation of return but at the same time opening myself for it to come back to me 10 times!! Activation of the Universal Law to give a portion of what I have received. I have seen my income TRIPLE when I gave consistently. AM going to start giving regularly again! good vibes i SHOULD GIVE MORE. I love this Dharma I haven't been. Since moving here I haven't been able to even make ends meet & am going into debt using my credit cards. I gave $1,700. For the legal fund & am anxious to get it back. Will the re-embersments be coming soon? I have NOT given because I have not had enough to take care of us. When I do, I will. 10 percent does not belong to me I like supporting whenever I feel I can Because it is the right thing to do - it feels right to me. I actually love giving DV. Because I support spreading this lifestyle and these teachings. My connection to the Guru deepens. Others gain access to the Dharm and the teachings. To conquer the Unknown, Increase my prosperity and build a foundation for future generations. Duty/Obligation/want to/etc I place my ten percent before the Guru, where it does not count as the official Dasvandh, but is how and where I naturally prefer to give. Mostly I give to Hacienda Ram Das $100 a month through automated paypall. I give additional monies to other of the 3HO related entities (i.e. Legal Fund, KRI, GRD Center for M & H, etc.) as additional funds for giving become available to me. I give because all things come from God, so I am just the steward of the money. YB & KY changed my life! it feels good, it works, it makes good sense Because I like to support the dharma when I can. Q5 does not make sense. Yes I give (regularly) - there is no way to answer that. I prefer electronic fund transfer as that makes it easy. I feel I have an obligation to the Dharma Local Sangat
  • 2. I do not give 2 the "Dasvandh" committee but I give Dasvandh here locally in my own community. I've been guided 2 offer my time &service 2the local community, ev week. I give because it feels important 2share my gifts, my wealth, my bounty & I know that that which I give returns a thousand fold. It's our duty 2care for those in greater need. SSS shared that it's a universal law. Give 10% and get 10 fold back. because it hooks up to god and guru and source and completes the circle of giving and being given to My teacher said it would benefit me and my family. He has been correct in all other things he has told me so he is correct in this area as far as I am concerned. all is EkOngKar Its a cosmic law and it is rightous act to confirm we are One. It's a rare opportunity To feed the source and thank the opportunity to access this technology. I give dasvandh locally here in South Africa. Our currency is so devalued against the US Dollar that it is pointless sending it across there, it simply loses too much value - better the value is utilised here. To support the dharma. I accept everythin comes to Infinity; Dasvandh belongs to the Guru I give every month. I give because the Siri Singh Sahib presented Dasvand as our spiritual obligation. I give to support what I believe in and to promote community growth. for the pleasure to give and to belong I support local charities in my hometown and Yoga West when I can. Because I feel really inspired and touched by the teachings and the sangat. to support the outreach efforts of Sikh Dharma Giving is good. because the Siri Singh Sahib taught us dasvandh technology and we've been giving ever since To support the Dharma supporting the unknown and being supported by the unknown Love DV. Because it's the only way to write a thank you note to God. I give money to Miri Piri and to Sikhnet I give of my time to community activites he said so Duty All the great religions have a teaching about 10% back to God. I learned it from others before SSS, who confirmed it. I make giving a routine so that I don't 'think' about the money that could go somewhere else. I believe the teachings and give monthly but don't actually practice much beyond ensuring 10% of intake is given back. Whenever I feel abundant. because I do believe in the theory of dasvandh. I want to help Sikh Dharma to continue its service. Because I receive. I believe in what we call Ayni in the Andean world. Please see what follows: When I am able, I give because I can. That's it. to help particular causes ... or express gratitude for receiving help in specific instances ... I give to help out. I generally give most of my money to people I see in need--on the street. I also sponsor a child through Children's International. I also have given to Yoga for Youth fairly often. I've given to Dasvandh at Solstice, but unfortunately it drops out of my awareness after I leave. habit of a lifetime, and I do find it makes money flow better into my life It feels righteous (and that's good). I give because of the blessings I receive. To serve I give to support preserving the teachings of the Siri Singh Sahib for us and future generations. I give to serve. I give when I am blessed with a way to earn money that I feel is mine--ie. "specific example". Everything I made I gave to the Legal Defense Fund. It is in giving that we can open ourself to receive. Otherwise we become like a stagnant pool, nothing moves!
  • 3. I want to share and help with what I am able. Feel its important to give back. commitment I give monthly on an automatic draw. I believe it's the right [eous] thing to do. because Yogi Bhajan told us :) Because prosperity is a matter of energy flow. I like to keep myself open to opportunities to grow and know that contributing to those people or projects that matter to me is participating in keeping the flow strong. Because this is supporting the Family I love I have for over 30 years. I give to MPA, because I want my contribution to support the youth, the school and the future. I believe MPA is the most important institution we have. What would inspire more? Answer that's a BIG question!!! You are asking for the secret to spirit Knowing how the funds were being dispersed/what they were being used for Needs of the dharma; maybe an increase in the funds available to me. I'm about to start giving 11%. Expanded Sikh organization, with functioning programs, a clear vision and realistic strategic and business plan, serving the global constituency and those in need with the teachings and values of Guru Nanak through Guru Gobind Singh, the Siri Guru Granth Sahib and the Siri Singh Sahib ji. Not sure where the money goes :) A big paycheck! inspiration and goals Having a larger income. As my income increases I give more An accounting on where the money goes and who it helps More faith. Less fear. knowing people that could come up with a better questionaire than this was working for the Dharma. Going with Christian, almost Baptist theme is so not Sikh Dharma. Earning more! Perhaps doing a little less seva related projects. I do so much for so many that it has reduced me to a non-profit and that is not good for giving more. It's not just about being organized, but saying no or saying I need to be paid or not do things that seem important but have less than it takes for me to remain solvent. Increased income. Nothing. The legal issues have me questioning who to give money to. A deeper experience of the Divine Design GETTING OVER FEAR OF NOT HAVING ENOUGH The end of the lawsuits, the shift in the consciousness of the sangat to be able to forgive the thieves and betrayers. No more us and them. When I make more, I give more When I have more then enough to spare and share. Have more income If I had more income, I would give more. At this time I give to DV, legal fund and community growth fund at Hacienda de Guru Ram Das, Espanola. This comes out to more than 10% of my income and that is all I can afford. If we had full time jobs and regular income. Having more to give. More income Have SDWW show all assets; how much is taken in and where the $ goes. Salaries of all employees. Time to open up folks! More stories and programs - outreach The more money I earn, the more I give. Making more $. a pay raise. I'm giving the amount that feels right right now. If I had more disposible, I'd give more. Currently I am living off savings and not earning more than my keep. As this shifts I will certainly be able to give more.
  • 4. To see that it's being used to fund incredible projects. And that the organizations it funds were organized and managed in an efficient manner. Key word may be accountability. Getting more, but that is up to the universe. Inspiration Definate projects. Temple of Steel. Have more incoming It is kind of like out of sight, out of mind. If more communications were sent to me about Das Vandh and the technology of Giving, as well as HOW to get signed up and start giving that would be inspiring. Getting annual reports about what Das Vandh funds are actually being used for. Stories I do not have any answer here. I tend to give directly to the sangat in specific purposes than just in flat contributions to Dasvandh for SDW. I did enjoy the one telecourse I participated in. a specific project n/a Results... seeing the money in action. Thats what it is all about. Also financial... annual report... the new paradigm. If I felt a stronger mission of how Sikh Dharma is going to serve on this planet at this time. Some monies I used to give to SD, I now give other places in the dharma where I want to support the service. I honor SD for the fighting the fight with great integrity, just want to feel the mission too. When I have more to give, I give locally. I know my husband does the same. I do automatic transfer of funds, but he isn't comfortable with that, he has his own formula for working out his donations. Id there were a request for more, regarding something specific that touches us, we would give more. To earn more. if we received realistic statements quarterly explaining how the money is being used receiving the message from my infinite self to do so My own self discipline. Learning how to be more disciplined. I do not need more inspiration nothing comes to mind, open to exploring Not sure Having more. Be more connected with my destiny. When my financial responsibilities lessen. To have a regular income. Living in Peru in the Sacred Valley my income is extremely limited. Most of the classes I offer are in kind donation of my time and knowledge. My husband and I are developing a Retreat+Education Center, it takes lots of work and faith to continue. Visit www.sacredvalleyretreatbb.com Currently, giving to Das Vandh SDW (SDI in the past) is like, has been like, sending something into an informational-administrative black hole. "I/We" give money, others (in high positions of organizational authority) decide what to do with it. Occasionally we receive a newsletter with feel good stories about the wonders of Das Vandh. See below: No comment. ... for example, could you possibly help us with what Yogi Bhajan taught us to do every day? It's been said, "It would take 72 hours to do what Yogi Bhajan taught us to do every day." We are planning a 12 week series on this topic and are looking for what he told us to do every day. For Dasvandh, I would give more (and more often), if I knew more about how the money is spent. This would be inspiring not only as far as giving more, but also how to live my life, as a 3HO person. More income! I am not making money teaching yet Knowing how the money is spent.... Awareness of need inspires me to give. What is our situation with paying our lawyers? I now get a wee bit of Social Security and use it to seed classes and to give. With a husband who is not a Sikh, I am not in a position to give 10% of our joint income--though Ron was generous during the fight in letting me give. If I brought in more money I would give more. Meaningful quotes or photos of Siri S. Sahib or Guru Nanak. if I would earn more when I feel that the dharma that has sustained me for so many years is in need of financial help with legal expenses More income = on a fixed retirement income Earn more income.
  • 5. Clarity of purpose. Dasvandh Story? Answer I've always had serious issues with money, probably due to my family of origin's very small income and many pressures on my parents including a very sick child and aging parents. In giving to dasvandh I've been able to overcome this to a large degree. Also, I've come to realize that there is more to world than just ME, and that if I am to be my best self I must serve in whatever ways I am given to know. Dasvandh is one of those ways. I've already given one on tape. Law of the Universe....I always count on giving to secure prosperity....and to support Divine work... 26 reps of 33 rd pauri were a very sigficant booster of the flow of prosperity for me I am now doing Basant Ki var Giving is a very sacred thing and when you come across this crass you may think you are 'with the times' or 'astute business people' but really you come across so de classe. Frankly I am ashamed to give to a group of people so crude that think they are so clever when they shake me down. Have worked for KRI for almost 40 years. I decided at that time to apply the seed book principal and started giving 10 percent of my "gross" off the top to Das Vandh and then chipping away at debt and the rest of bills. I was always fine after that and paid off all debt plus increased prosperity every year since. n/a What I have received from giving to Das Vandh is not measurable in a ledger book. It goes far beyond "having" or "giving" or"sharing". It has never been about riches or poverty. I have what I have and desire no more. Being a Sikh is enough, in fact it is more than enough. It is beyond my silly imagination to think that "more" would make either me or thee any happier. My riches, if they can be called that, allow me to continue to become what I am. I desire not a thing more (or less) and am placated by my ability to understand what my teacher has given me. I do not contend that I am in complete agreement or complete understanding. Only I am here, working on this day, as I think I am supposed to do. Each day is a blessing, each penny a step forward. God & Guru give me what I need and to the best of my ability I pass on as much as I can. Dasvandh definitely works! it never "worked" but I not expected it to "work" anyway. I gave for the pleasure to give. Everything belongs to the Guru and will return to the Guru We don't want to ask people to give so they will get something back for themselves. That is selfish giving, and this kind of ask promotes that selfish thinking. People want to give because they want to get behind your work. That is selfless giving. It feels good to give to something because we participate in that project. The closest thing I have to a dasvandh story is years ago living in Mexico City when I was a poor traveller and yoga student, I went to the Basilica of Guadalupe and I was so moved by the devotion of the people and all the stories of healing, that I gave my last $20 or so to one of the donation boxes...I wasn't yet a Sikh but I was living in the ashram there and had been told about the power of giving...Literally a few days later the major earthquake of 1985 struck and devastation ensued. My dear friend who was a priest travelled to Mexico City to check on the relatives of his parish and to check on me as well and he told me of all the donations that had poured in from the people who were so concerned. I said yes. She said do that, get in the system (EFT) and that way I would be in das vandh. I have never forgotten that and always been grateful. At the time I saw it as all or nothing and she said just give what you can even if it is not 10%. I upped it to $27 when I could and finally got a job that made me feel comfortable about the 10% (of net) and have maintained it ever since.
  • 6. No comment. ... for example, we set aside an evening's tuition for donation after what took place last year: On 11-1-11, we taught about Yogi Bhajan's headstone and his inclusion of the concept of "One" [11-1-11 ... lots of #1's that day]. There was generous help on this topic, and a miracle took place. Folks in New Mexico shared about the headstone. Then, while driving on El Camino Real here in California, as I was sharing on the speaker phone with my friend Kathy about my "ah-hah" moment of realization about the headstone, a car changed lanes, pulled right in front of me, and confirmed my headstone insight with the license plate "INFINITI". As if that were not enough - as I was 'ooohing and aaahing' to Kathy about that which was transpiring before my eyes - I turned the corner and stopped at an electric light with another car right in front of me. The license plate on this car? ... "YOGI"! Being generous has always brought me great prosperity and happiness. It's like a magic formula for attracting the Universe's caring embrace. Here's a short one: When I sit down to the monthly bills there isn't always anything left for Dasvandh. We had just bought a computer and done some traveling, I simply didn't have any more money to go. Yet when I bowed my head before the Guru, the desire came over me to go so great that I broke out in sobs. I made flyers offering to teach Kundalini Yoga and had a garage sale to raise money. I gave flyers to everyone I had contact with--neighbors, car pool friends from my son's school, people at the bank and the grocery store. I found people I would never have guessed that were interested and became yoga students. My husband was embarrassed by all of this and when the garage sale didn't raise much and the yoga class money also wasn't enough, he suddenly said that we had some money we could use for me to go. He said, "You always say that God is going to take care of everything but it is My husband and I have always given to dasvandh ever since we got married. Whenever Yogi Bhajan asked for donations for some of the students going to India we gave. We were not wealthy in financial means then nor now. We gave out of obedience to our spiritual teacher, Yogi Bhajan. Answer I am thinking of "chicken soup for the soul" type of book on dasvand....stories like that. I like them when the stories a bit more spiritual and genuine rather than simplistic ...some new innovation is certainly needed - It will take a team, a really inspired and hardworking team to make this happen. And there is got to be something it it for the team as well, rather than another karma yoga job....I had spoken a while back about creating success weekends - where we have the team of inspired people give workshops on how to make money, how to make it in business... really well, like some of these management I & many others have paid thousands for over the years. A once or twice a year Dasvand camp... Prosperity camp: model it after a successful management camp & get 7 3Ho folks that teach about $ and link it all to dasvandt It's a bit out of my domain. Being open about how the money is used, promoting prosperity technology, having some sort of question/answer process. I think being very transparent about financial matters, particularly at this time, is very important. Keep up. Call me if you think I can be of more help: 617-710-9292. Focus your simplified Case for Support: developing and promoting programs that impact and uplift lives and the number of lives impacted Keep it coming! surveys are good Let people know how much money is donated, where the money goes and how it helps others Find someone like Ravi Kaur (Avtar Hari's wife) to work for you. And it reminds me of the SSS, Sikh Dharma, God, etc every time I use keys. For Das Vandh I would use this same fob with a reference to Das Vandh / Sikh Dharma / Adi Shakti on the other side. It would remind people to chant the mantra, share the mantra and give Das Vandh. Every time keys are used. Multiple times per day. KEEP UP!
  • 7. Promote a consciousness shift to be inclusive, no more us and them, and teach the. sangat how to forgive can you please make the moneies collected and spent public. post it on your web site. it would be nice where the money goes. what is your management overhead. what projects you are supporting. who makes the deciisions. Why can't I just pay my 10 percent to Das Vandh and trust that the funds will properly cover our Sikh Dharma expenses, which include an Office of the Bhai Sahiba. What decisions are being made about incurring future legal expenses? Will the Sangat be apprised and allowed to give input? Thank you. Infinite blessings. I am giving to Pritham Kaur for her cancer fight and so should the whole dharma The more PR about DV the better. I fully trust that staff have dedicated themselves to the Dharma and it's protection but it sometimes feels "elitest" - that my input or my views don't count - that I'm not considered "worthy enough". Sat Nam, Perhaps rather than this digital communication media, consider another very subtle and personal way of delving deep into the hearts, minds, souls and life realities of others, regarding giving, sacrificing and this most sensitive subject of their profound relationship with the Infinite Beloved within themselves and their Dharma. This means perhaps a network of monk-like emissaries and teachers, representing this most humble and noble cause, going real-time from village-to-village, house-to-house, head in hands with Guru's blessings, sitting down to a warm cup of tea, having a very real, heart-to-heart talk, and winning the heart, mind and soul of the other. Then, enlist that person to do the same in the Divine Chain, thus mastering giving and Das Vandh via teaching and living as an example. Maybe call it "The Das Vandh Walk"! I would love for someone to come and talk to me personally like this. With Love and Gratitude see above find some wonderful projects for dasvandh to fund. you could even have a donation based niwas at the ashram in guru ram das that is run entirely by seva. this could include veggie gardens with things to be done by sevadars/volunteers/ helping visitors. there's got to be something for mohala (for nothing) as we say here in africa. that to me also embodies the spirit of dasvandh. give people a chance on your site to select what their dasvandh must go to - e.g.various projects, say, library of the sss, beautifying of the ashram gardens, building a crystal labyrinth or a gazebo for a baba siri chand shrine, building a khalsa old age home - i'm just pulling stuff out of my hat here, just ideas. secondly, some areas appear grey and perhaps people feel it is too vague.e.g. despite the fact that he has put his noise out of joint with the community, apparently guru chander is still sitting with a huge amount of ashram funds. so create healing and dialogue and clarity, it's essential!
  • 8. Yes, Keep up! Do sadhana. Everyday. Love everyone. Forgive all. Forget not. Grace will carry thou through. Accept God's will. Trust Gurusahib. Serve each other. Find the dust of each saint's foot. Bow. Demonstrate your gratitude. Everyday. Japji blesses your day before it happens. Remember your seva. Bless every moment with Remembrance. Keep up! Prosperity is to fulfill your destiny. As a Sikh we do have prosper to serve our destiny - there is so much to do to keep the legacy alive. Keep up .Project small targeted goals which need Dasvandh a few times a year.Sikhnet do an annual one More communications to people about Dasvandh. Why support an organization of members who look down on the Indian Sikhs and some members of the 3HO community who don't practice exactly like the SSS taught. Yet, when I knew the SSS he never personally talked to me about a dogmatic way of life. He himself was Indian, yet members of the organization married my soon to be ex husband at Solstice - before our divorce decree was finalized and legal and refused to help me have a wedding in our local Gurdwara because later on I was remarrying a Punjabi man. It's not a fun job asking for money and I admire your commitment! describe specific project about spreading the teachings The idea of inspiring people by saying they "should" give 10 percent does not work. What works is to get people involved, interested and inspired by you are going to do with their money. People want to make a difference in the world, That, instilling change, supporting an organization that is doing things someone believes in and wants to get behind, is the biggest motivator for giving. In my opinion, SDW needs to express the goals of SDW... over and over agin. Why SDW is important in the world... what are the long term benefits. How are you using the money. If that is a moral no no, I would really work to move past that. Its a new age. Be proud of our finances and put them on the table. People need this. And without the SSS as the factor that gave everything trust we have to find new ways to establish trust. And that usually means everything is above board that can be. Be proud. And then.. motivate with the short term projects. People give when they see a specific need with urgency. - print (on demand) an official SD nitnem and sundar gutka in different formats - create a 'learn gurmukhi online' school - make inspiring Sikhism videos and put them on youtube - start a 'SikhiMint' like yogamint - weekly newsletter with brief and inspiring content. - talk to SikhNet, we've got more project ideas than we can work on.
  • 9. 1. Donate money to programs of outreach. In 2006, the outreach office, office of communications, that the Siri Singh Sahib created in L.A. was canceled after the finances were cut. Since then, there has not been any financial support to keep this important service to be continued, so that we can serve the world. I have always been baffled by this. 2. I think that it would be important to mention where the money goes; to what organization or what office. You don't have to mention how much, or perhaps just a percentage. This would allow the Sangat to make suggestions. Perhaps you are already doing this? Not at this time, thank you Keep UP! :) keep up Keep up Allow giving in multiple forms, and via every possible channel that's out there. Emphasize what efforts the money is funding. Understand that Guru said 10% of earnings to God. For me, that includes my ashram: 10% is Community Growth and DV combined. I do not give 10% to DV and CGF separately. Perhaps I would if I could but I feel I am honoring Guru and the teachings by seeing both funds as my DV, since this ashram is still Guru's work. Thank you. Show where the funds go. I like the mediations you share and Siri Singh Sahib's lectures. My career experience in accounting began in 1976, at UCLA evening extension...... First principle taught there was "get the money information first, and FOLLOW THE MONEY." I'm now going to refer you back to the recent expression of need for Dharmic (deciding) boards to be nested in and "overseen by" a larger, experienced body of Khalsa (from Khalsa Council), as direct constituency the boards are accountable to. Dharma moves forward by means of finance and Seva from its membership, the Khalsa Sangat represents the humanity on whom Dharma depends for money and resources. Currently, boards don't consult with us PRIOR to major decisions, we receive announcements later about the will and the decisions of the boards "on our behalf." This reduces "Us" to childlike status. The Palki that carries the Guru and Dharma must ride on adult shoulders of Sangat. Adults treated like children will withdraw support. Listen! No comment. I don't have a suggestion, only a thought to share about my personal experience where donations have been in reverse order. That is, it wasn't a result of dasvandh that miracles took place, but as a result of miracles - aided and abetted by y'all - that dasvandh took place. Maybe it's not what Yogi Bhajan meant by dasvandh, so I humbly share my experience. (This is apart from the percentage of tuition fees donated through our yoga studio.) Sat Nam, I think you all are doing a great job. I also would like to see a financial report of our finances (if our lawyers think it is okay to do so)...how much we've collected and where it has been spent. Thanks.
  • 10. Show how as participants of Dasvandh we are contributing to better schooling for the MPA students, and exactly where the monies are going that we do contribute. How is our international sangat involved in helping others,ie free kitchens, teaching yoga, etc? In other religions and organizations the members are given the opportunity to participate in helping in their communities. How does this translate back to the individual like myself? What kind of programs can we do that will benefit others? Keep supporting the process of inspiration. Keep up your good work. I don't contribute to USA Dasvandh but in Europe, together with my Guru Dakshina.
