Sonocent’s School Pack includes Audio Notetaker, an audio-centric workspace that empowers reluctant writers to communicate and capture their ideas quickly, overcoming the underlying challenges of putting pen to paper.
Working through audio frees your writers to express their ideas and develop the techniques necessary to kick start the writing process. Whether struggling with confidence, general literacy skills, English as a Second Language or specific learning difficulties, the Sonocent Schools Pack provides learning strategies to develop a range of study skills.
The Sonocent School Pack and Audio Notetaker also helps with self-assurance and performance in speaking, listening and group discussion work, note-taking and research.
In meetings, lectures or classroom settings requiring note-taking, Audio Notetaker is ideal for students who struggle with this important study skill.
3. “Reluctant Writer” – a definition
Reluctant writer may be defined as
one who’s writing is habitually superficial,
either because ideas are not expanded or
because the writing is executed in haste.
Paul Gardner - February 2011

Editor's Notes
Welcome everyone to this workshop on empowering reluctant writers to communicate, capture ideas and write.
My name is Reeza Awoodun, Education Consultant for Sonocent and in this next 30 minutes I will you talk through some audio based strategies to help you get your students over this hurdle.
Engaging reluctant writers can be a big challenge for teachers. The learner can be rich in ideas but struggle to express this in writing.
This can lead to giving up, anxiety, stress, withdrawal and even anger!

There can be many underlying reasons for a student to be a reluctant writer. They may lack working memory, cognitive ability, spelling, punctuation and grammar skills, have English as a second language or simply lack fine motor control to use a pen or pencil. Lack of experience, either life or reading can be a pre-condition of becoming a reluctant writer.
What is needed is a solution to allow thoughts and ideas to be captured quickly, bypassing the initial underlying issues of being a reluctant writer. We need a ‘No Pens’ solution!
Through this we can develop learning strategies to kick start the writing process.
This process will help scaffold the development of learning strategies to kick start the writing process.
The bank of lesson plans and pre-recordings provides a stimulus of ideas on how to integrate this program into your classroom.
