- Matapihi is a free web-based service that lets people search the online collections of multiple organisations at the same time Originated as a pilot initiative of the National Digital Forum The National Digital Forum is an alliance of New Zealand organisations that is taking a cross-sector approach to providing access to collections of digital cultural heritage resources The National Library hosts the service and provides leadership and support. Service is developed collaboratively with partnering organisations around New Zealand, including museums, art galleries, libraries, archives, and other cultural organisations.
- At two years old (September 2005): 8 partners from a range of different sectors and disciplines (will be 10 when contributions from Te Papa and The University of Auckland Library are launched) Around 75,000 records (will increase this year) Focus is on New Zealand Aotearoa Mostly images, but also audio, 3-d virtual objects, film clips, and e-texts Mostly historical, some born digital objects such as Te Ara encyclopedia entries
- This slide shows how Matapihi works. Appears so seamless users often don’t realise the images aren’t actually stored on Matapihi. Could show metadata record here.
- Not all partners have same amount of time to contribute. Contribute as and when can to overall goals of project.
- Partners sign an MoU with Schedules outlining responsibilities of partner and Lead Agency (National Library).
