  4. © Creativa - Fotolia.com If they can read like an educated child in the target language country, they should score at least one credit. If they can read an online news site, they are more likely to earn 4 credits.
  5. © Creativa - Fotolia.com If students who can write a simple communication should earn at least one credit. Their writing doesn’t have to be perfect. Many language learners still make mistakes. Bilinguals who only speak a language should be encouraged to learn anther World Language or work with community members to learn to read and write their own language

  7. During their school career, the value of the dominant culture is made starkly clear to bicultural students.. When students earn credits for their first language, it begins to show that the school values their identity. Their bilingualism may have been viewed ask a deficit.   15. Students who study a world language for just one year score an average of 38 points higher on the SATs.   17. The year that researchers at the University of Cambridge discovered that people who know two languages are nicer. According to the research, bilingual folks are better able to tolerate differences and find solutions to conflict.
