8. internet www.prezi.com Prezi is an online slideshow maker which gives the reader ability to zoom in on areas. This has helped me to be more creative with my blog. www.slideshare.net The website has made me able to upload my slideshows and embed them on my blog. www.blogger.com The most useful website I have used in the process of making my media product. I created my blog and documented my making of a music magazine, contents page and double page spread. www.picasion.com I have use this to make my photographs I took flash from on to another. I found this helpful in making my blog more creative. Overall the internet and the free things available have helped my work look more professional and creative.
9. Desk top publishing (dpt) During the making of my magazine I took the role of more than 6 roles which just shows how easy it is now to make a magazine if I was able to make one using just one person. Journalist – I wrote the article and found out the facts for my article plus constructed interviews Photographer - I took all the photographs myself and chose the models ect. Sub-editor – I edited things myself Graphic designer – I chose the look of the magazine and what would go where Layout sub-editor – I had to layout my magazine in a professional way Proof reader – I had to re read my work to check it was up to professional standards
10. The roles I took the role of in the media industry are usually taken on by much more than one person. This just shows how the industry has changed over years. Now with the internet you can gain an audience online which means you don’t even need to publish your magazine on paper, it can be published online. In the past they had to use a typesetter to create a media product, now with DPT and the internet it is not needed. Billions lost their jobs, deadlines were shortened. I learnt how important the type of shots you take and where they are taken from are for example low angle and high angle can change how the audience see the model.
11. Hot metal Today newspaper was the first Newspaper to be published in color This was all thanks to DTP. Now it is so much easier to make a magazine as I have proven myself. This means that in the professional magazine industry it is too. Less jobs are needed to produce media because of DTP. This meant that there were no means for using a typesetter and wasting so much time melting down the words to be reused (hot metal). This also means deadlines were shorter, because of DTP you Can create a professional looking media product in a few hours.
12. Adobe Photoshop I was already familiar with Photoshop from the GCSE course therefore I was just refreshing my skills and learning more about the software. From using this software I have realised just how easy it is to make a professional looking magazine front cover. The most difficult thing involving photoshop was to get the front page looking professional.
13. Quark xpress The most difficult part of my production was using Quark Xpress. This was because the software was new to me but once I had used it once and been shown how to use it I found how easy it was to use and how it made my double page look professional. I used Quark Xpress to make my contents page and double page spread.
14. I have learnt that you don’t need a lot of people to create a professional looking magazine. I have also learnt how much easier it has become to create a magazine which would fit in, in a music store or newsagents. I have learnt that it is possible for one person to create a magazine given practise, time and the correct software. I have learnt how to use appropriate technology used in the industry and how to make a professional looking media product. I have also learnt how useful the internet is, it offers free tools to add to the look of a magazine and make it look even more professional.
