2. In 1950—perhaps before you were born or at least before you had come to the profession as a consulting hypno-
tist—a small group began meeting regularly at the Hypnotism Center in Boston, Massachusetts. The four individuals
became the charter members of the National Guild of Hypnotism, a name that was formally registered in 1951.
Through much hard work, lobbying, sweat, skill, and persistence, we have established hypnotism as a “separate
and distinct profession.” We have members in 62 countries around the world, and we are seeing steady growth
and expansion in our NGH Chapters. More and more people are coming to the profession each year, receiving
training and certification as Consulting Hypnotists.
Since our founding, the NGH has grown to be the largest of all the professional hypnotism member organizations.

first expressed in June Jordan’s “Poem for South African Women,” it is hardly a statement limited by race, gender, or
social cause. Instead, the message, “We are the ones we have been waiting for,” applies to anyone (and everyone)
with a desire, passion, mission, or even just a ray of hope that they can change perceptions in even one niche of the
world.
The public perception of our profession is shaped dramatically by the work of the National Guild of Hypnotists, its
leadership, and its membership… and that means YOU.
Stand up. Shine your light. Be part of something greater than yourself. Encourage and inspire others. Create legacy
as part of the 2013 NGH Convention.
