Public Affairs Job Description
Editor, NCR News
Reports to: Director of Public Affairs
Function: Assists the Director by editing submissions and writing feature content for NCR News, the official
monthly newsletter of North Central Region
Responsibilities include:
• Edit submitted content to AP Style standards, in accordance with accepted CAP practices, then submit
it to the director for layout and publication
• Write features for the newsletter as agreed to with the director
• Coordinate with the Wing Public Affairs Officers for the content of the Wing News area of the
newsletter
• Research online news sources for potential newsletter items
• Promote a strong Safety and Operational Risk Management program within CAP
• Perform other related duties as assigned
Time Commitment:
• 8-12 Hours per month
• Monthly 1 hour PA Team conference call
• Monthly 1-on-1 call with the director
Desired Requirements for the Position:
• Rank – Capt. or below, Senior Member NCO, or Flight Officer
• Experience – At least 2 years’ experience as Squadron Public Affairs Officer, knowledgeable about
Associated Press Style, have superior writing/spelling/grammar/syntax skills
• Training – Rated at least Technician in the Public Affairs Specialty Track
• Portfolio - Candidates will be asked for samples of their work, including published items
• Permissions - Applicants must obtain permission from their unit and Wing Commanders
• Duty Assignment - This position does not involve a transfer to NCR headquarters, NCR-001
• Relationship to HQ, NCR - This assignment is in addition to the members’ other CAP duties. Members
would join the NCR Public Affairs Team with the understanding that their primary obligation is to their
assigned unit.
