2. Warren took James out to the park for some
father and son timeā¦ a bbq basically. He planned
on breaking the news he and Teresa were
together quickly, and as if it were no big deal.
James couldnāt remember his real
mother, Miranda, anyway.
3. But James
surprised his dad
by not liking the
idea at all. It
seems he hasnāt
forgiven Teresa
for leaving them
and having Megan
in secret. Still
waters run
deep, and he
hated how sad is
father had been.
4. Warren decided to
take them all on a
bonding holiday to
France. Heād use the
last of Mirandaās life
insurance pay
out, leaving him with
a fresh start in every
way with the new love
in his life on their
return.
5. Over at the Darkstone residence, Trinityās love life is
far from settled. All she can think about is the
mysterious dark haired man at the top of her
organisation. She tries everything to distract
herself, even attempting to get Belladonna fit so she
can come out on raids too ā to no avail.
6. It was all very well being
harsh with herself in the
mirror, what she really
wanted wasnāt hers to
have. Or steal, given her
occupationā¦
7. Belladonna had noticed that
her twin was pining for
something, and guessed
what for fairly quickly. She
too was lonely in this new
town, but finding love
seemed unlikely . She
recognised her tendency to
shut herself awayā¦ but if
kind, lovely people like she
and her sister were
criminals, imagine who else
could be out there!
8. When the Poet arrived at their
door, Trinity assumed it had to be a
massive new job he had planned.
Only that would warrant him
breaking protocol and visiting her
at her home.
9. She was over the moon
when instead, the Poet
made a move on her!
10. Belladonna could only
watch on jealously as
Trinity and the Poet had a
long, intimate
conversation; a real heart-
to-heart. It seemed the
Poet knew what he
wanted, and Trinity was it.
11. Upstairs, away from any potential
earwigging, the Poet and the Balanced
Stone swapped their real names. There was
no going back now, and Edward Poeson
stayed the night.
Soon, he was over several nights a week.
12. Chatting one night, Edward
listens to her problems
about the Vickers, and
suggests she watches
Arietteās comings and goings
more closely. What she
learns might give her some
ammo to fight back. He
refuses to go into any more
detail, even for his girlfriend.
13. The Bailey and Marshall families
are on holiday together in
France. Having put Megan down
for the night, Warren and Teresa
are content to sit by the fire all
evening, chatting quietly. James
falls asleep at their side.
14. They did plenty of
sightseeing, and the
couple were particularly
taken with the vineyards.
15. Teresa got fully stuck into
the hands on exhibit. And
as she squashed the fruit
with her feet, an idea
began to form.
16. If she and Warren could
get one of these
machines, they could
really make something of
Warrens burgeoning
gardening business.
17. It wasnāt all business though, even
James managed to come out of his
shell a little bit and have fun. When he
took his turn telling a ghost story at the
hotel, Warren hoped it was a sign his
shyness was finally abating.
18. For James, this holiday was all about
the music. Heād never seen someone
play an instrument up close
before, and he was transfixed by the
beautiful melodies played by the
French musicians around the resort.
19. The two of them even managed to have a
night to themselves on the last evening. They
left Megan and James with a special
overnight creche and went for a romantic
date by the river.
20. They stayed out all
night, but by daybreak
Warren had finally
worked up the courage
to propose.
21. It came as a complete
shock, she had only
just got used to the
fact they were a
couple. But he had
been married
before, so must know
what he was doing.
What he wanted.
So she accepted his
proposal, and they
returned home
engaged.
22. Trinity had been busy after her
boyfriends tip off and advice
about Ariette Vickers.
23. Sheād done her
homework, watching her comings
and goings from the Street and
making a log. Usually, Arietteās
movements were
predictable, revolving around her
social calendar.
24. Social occasions , parties and
dinners and so on, could be
independently verified with a
little leg work. It was doubtful
that these events were what
Edward had been alluding to.
25. But eventually, Trinity began noticing something odd.
Ariette would always travel in her own car. But once a
fortnight she would walk to the end of the Street, go down
a little way round a corner and catch a pre-ordered taxi. If
there were parties that night, Ariette had turned them
down. Where was she going instead? This had to be it.
26. Trinity tracked down the taxi firm, and hacked
into their database to find Arietteās destination.
It was some manor house in the country. A bit of
digging identified it as a boarding school for
girls. A bit more digging got her the list of
students, including one Annette Vickers.
27. Trinity needed a different source to corroborate her
theory. In a series of columns from the society pages
from years before Trinity found her evidence.
Ariette had been wooed by a notorious
womaniser, and had fallen for his
charms. But she disappeared for over a
year after they broke upā¦ Just enough
time to carry a illegitimate love child to
term, give birth and then stow it in an
institution somewhere. It was like
something out of a Victorian novel.
Hard to believe that kind of mind set
still existed, the poor kid was nothing to
be ashamed of in this day and age.
