Tales and Talk for Twos and Threes: On the Go!
Share nursery rhymes or other rhymes so the child will learn to hear and play with
“same” and “different” sounds in words.
Singing is the most natural way to hear the smaller sounds in words since each sound is
usually sung on a different musical note.
Share books that rhyme or can be sung. Read slowly, clearly, and enthusiastically.
Play with words and sounds.
o Leave a pause before saying the rhyming word in order to let the child think and
respond. Point to objects or pictures as clues.
o Clap on each syllable (or part) of a word or just on the words that rhyme.
o Talk and say words in different ways. (How would a giant or a mouse say a word?)
