2. The Famine North Korea faced a great famine starting in the early 90’s which killed almost 3.5 million people. More recently North Korea has been having food shortages due to political issues, failing crops and agriculture and little to no help from the world community.
3. Political North Korea’s political system is one of the biggest causes of the famine. Rice shipments from south Korea have been cut off due to military tensions between the two countries. European officials are currently in North Korea to address the food shortages issue.
4. World Community In one of the news sources I used from Fox News, reporter Greta Van Susteren mentions how the world community is not stepping in to prevent a repetition of the great famine which took place in the 90’s. An article from Asia Times mentions how the U.S and South Korea are struggling in deciding to help North Korea or not.
5. Farming/Economical The farming communities of North Korea are facing massive loss of crops, minimal progression in agriculture and have limited farming tools such as tractors, plows, and a good irrigation system. Due to loss of crops and failed cultivation of plants, the economy is highly impacted because of the price of importing goods.
6. News Agencies Article 2 has a more serious tone, reflecting on how severe the situation is. The author describes America and South Korea's dilemma a “collision course” and address's North Korea as starving nation multiple times. Article 1 take’s a lighter tone when addressing issue of world community stepping in to supply North Korea with food.
