2. Distribution
• Distribution- the action of sharing something
among a number of people
• Film distribution- an action where a film is made
available for an audience to watch, after being
shared by a film distributor, normally at the start
the distributor will acquire rights to a film and the
distributor will plan a strategy for release, the will
release a trailer for the film, using different
agencies, afterwards they agree exhibition deal
with cinemas and finally make the films available
for home entertainment.
3. Examples of film distribution
companies
• - 20th Century Fox is on the biggest films
distributors, it was founded in 1935, it’s been
owned by news cooperation and 21st centaury
fox. Examples of films it distributed are
Avatar, Ice Age: Dawn of the dinosaurs and
Night at the museum.
• Artificial Eye is an U.K. based independent film
distributor, example of films they distributed is
fill the void.
4. My film
• Our film was a psychological thriller, similar to
Shutter Island, which was produced by
Paramount pictures, which is a major film
distribution company, they probably may not
be interested in my film, as it was made on a
small budget and did not feature any well
known actors in the film.
5. Who does my film appeal to?
• My film appeals to a wide variety of audience
as it doesn’t just relate to one small area or
country, so it may be popular outside of the
U.K. The only problem is that it may not
appeal outside of the U.K. that much, due to it
not featuring well known actors, but the
location could mean people from the U.K. are
more likely to watch the film
6. Marketing strategies
• For my film, I would release a trailer and the
trailer would be shown in cinemas and on T.V.
advertisements, as these would be the places
that you would expect to see a film of this
genre.
7. Self-distribution
• Pro’s: distribute your film nationally, qualify for
your film for an Oscar
• market your film to foreign countries,
• gives you a highly skilled publicist to set up press
screenings, promote the film,
• submit your film to major digital platforms
• Cons: it’s a full time job, as it can take very long to
do
• you need to be legally savvy
• it may limit your sales
