No More Bubbles!
1. No More Bubbles!
The Problem
Thermoforming with polycarbonate sheet can be frustrating when
bubbling occurs. The leading cause of bubbles in thermoformed poly-
carbonate sheet is the absorption of moisture from the air.
Step 1: Dry it Out
Because polycarbonate tends to absorb moisture rather quickly,
pre-drying the sheets is the best defense against the formation of
bubbles.
Step 2: Give it Time
Depending on the thickness of your sheet and the temperature that
your dehumidifying air circulation oven can reach, the length of time
that the polycarbonate sheet should be pre-dried prior to thermoform-
ing can vary greatly. Use the chart below to determine your dry time.
Step 3: Thermoform!
Once your sheets have been completely pre-dried for the prescribed amount of time at the listed temperatures,
transfer them immediately to the forming machine as soon as possible.
