Each one of us is constantly surrounded by multi-touch technologies in everyday life. We keep our smartphones with us all the time, we work with tablet computers and touch screens. But also in stores, in museums and exhibitions, and on trade fairs, the intuitive touch-gesture on a surface has become second nature to us. But how exactly does the underlying technology work, and how can businesses make optimal use of them, e.g. at their point of sale (POS)? The multi-touch experts of Garamantis Interactive Technologies have gathered all information on this ubiquitous technology and “forged” them into one large infographic. This graphic is addressed to anyone who wants to become an instant expert on multi-touch technology within a few minutes, but particularly to businesses and agencies looking for a way to optimally apply this technology in their work.

Camera-based Interactive Touch Screen is a touch detection technique that uses a camera to provide a large display with very high spatial and temporal resolutions. The conventional touch screen technology and presentation methods face a range of restrictions. However, the camera-based touch detection can overcome all these restrictions and turn projection screens into interactive touch displays, creating a through-window experience. It uses a coated sheet of glass as the projection surface to form a two-dimensional display. The camera captures images of the projection surface continuously, which are processed by the Atmega16 microcontroller. A UART module connected to the microcontroller, provides asynchronous serial communication with external devices, synchronisation of the serial data stream and recovery of data characters. This technology has several advantages over other touch detection technologies, such as its low cost, simple design and scalable structure. The applications of this technology include advertising, presentations and outdoor displays.

The media landscape changes significantly over the last few years by new content formats, new service offerings, additional consumption devices and new monetization models. Think of Netflix, DAZN, Mediatheks, mobile devices, interactive content, smart TVs, Virtual and Augmented Reality, and so on. Many of these efforts have been realized by a limited usage of standards, but are standards irrelevant? Secondly, more and more services are enabled by latest mobile compute platforms enabling new services and experiences. This presentation will provide an overview some of these trends and will motivate the development of global interop standards. Specific aspects will include the move of linear TV services to the Internet (both mobile and fixed) as well recent advances on Extended Reality and immersive media trends.
