Brief Jigoshop presentation given at the WordPress London meetup.
We covered two areas - the first was how a business can thrive on a free-to-download, open source eCommerce platform, and secondly how designers and developers can get involved in Jigoshop itself
4. • Jigowatt, an eCommerce design agency
developed Jigoshop as their own WordPress
solution.
• First software project, producing open source
software under a GNU licence.
• Released June 2011, 7 versions to date, 70,410
downloads.
• Great response:
'Well let me tell you boys and girls – eCommerce
for WordPress don’t suck no more!'
Themesforge
6. We're still here, and making money
• Premium

Plugins.
• Premium

• Affiliate
Revenue
• 3rd party sales

and
development
work
7. We've learnt...
• Open Source can
still be cut-throat
• Community and
reputation are
vital
• Open
Communication
• Customer data
not opinion
• Always be
optimising sales
channels
8. The future
Continue to make it easier for designers and
developers to build on Jigoshop
Work to improve 3rd party sales even more. If
you make money, we make a little, too :)
Evolve our support packages for agencies and
developers
9. • Developer in training for 6+ years
• Been using WordPress since v2.9
• My goals for Jigoshop
o Lightweight without reduced features
o One of the best written plugins in the
repository
o Be an example that WordPress can be
a great eCommerce platform
11. Keep Jigoshop updated
• Backup Files & Database before any update
o Use plugins like BackupBuddy
• 1.2 Now in beta
o New permalink options
o Bulk Edit for products
o Personalized Products
o Order emails fully customizable
o Various Fixes
• Download it now on our public github repository
12. Extend Jigoshop
• Table Rate shipping
o Enables varying shipping prices depending
on the location of the customer
• Simple SEO Meta Tags
o Add extra data to your product pages such
as description & keywords
• Newsletter Signup on checkout
(Mailchimp/Campaign Monitor)
o Notify your customers of your promotions in
email newsletters
• And many more on jigoshop.com/extend
13. Don't use frontend styles in themes
• frontend.css is constantly evolving
• Reliance on frontend styles can cause issues when
updating jigoshop
• Copy the contents of frontend.css from
assets/css/frontend.css into your theme's
stylesheet
14. Enable Google Analytics Ecommerce Tracking
• Gives stats on conversion rate, average order total
& number of items over periods of time.
• Perfect way to measure how effective your
marketing campaigns are.
15. Use Hooks & Filters to customize html output
• Jigoshop uses hooks to display HTML
o Most template hooks located in
/jigoshop_template_actions.php
o Linked template functions located in
/jigoshop_template_functions.php
• For special pages like cart / checkout we use
shortcodes so you can add additional information to
the page for a full list of shortcodes see the file
/shortcodes/init.php
16. Customizing involves unhooking the jigoshop action &
hooking your own. For example lets take the sales
flash & change the markup from a <span> to a
<div> tag:
And that's it!
17. You can make jigoshop awesome
• Join in on the beta & report bugs
• Contribute to the public repository with new ideas &
bug fixes
• Create themes / extensions for jigoshop
• Participate in the forum helping other jigoshoppers
solve their issues
• Contribute to the documentation by sending articles
to info@jigoshop.com
• And finally spread the word about jigoshop!
18. Thank You!
