Nature Oriented Verse: An Ecopoetic Critical Review of Romantic Poetry

The concept of nature in literary works is not altogether a new phenomenon. It has been spotted in the earliest works of literature and has been a concept that poets approach, revealing how they perceive nature and what kind of relationship they might share. With every scientific discovery, however, an impact on the human mind may reframe the manner of perception. The twentieth century has witnessed a drastic increase in scientific studies that reveal the impact of humans on the natural environment, which in turn effected the way people think about the relationship between human societies and nature. With new perceptions of viewing nature, the way people narrate stories and write poetry has been changing as well. That is why the manner and aims of how nature has been approached and analyzed in poetry has drastically changed in today’s world. One of the most common eras that witnessed a wide use of nature is Romantic Age. This presentation shall analyze and evaluate Romantic poetry according to the most recent types of literary criticism; “ecocriticism” showing thereby if it is possible to categorize the poetic productions during this era under the means of “ecopoetry.”

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. ABSTRACT
This paper attempts to view the Environment in selected
literary text. In recent years the human and environment
connection has provided a vast area for research.
Environment is an inseparable part of human’s world but
personal greed has increased the depletion of nature.
Dickens in Hard Times have done great service unknowingly
by projecting imagery of industrial town and imparted
serious teaching of Environment. William Wordsworth is
nature poet and so this paper also makes efforts to read his
poems as envirocentric literature. Every literary work
constitutes an environment in the background, reading it
allows us to understand its problem in contemporary time.
This paper attempts to read the environment in selected
literary works.
3. OBJECTIVES
● Envirocentric Literature was coined in 1978, Can we
find Envirocentricism in Literature published before
it?
● Do ‘Hard Times’, ‘The World is Too Much With Us’ and
‘The Tables Turned’ show the relation between
literature and Physical Environment?
● Envirocentric Literature provides deeper insight in
the mannerism of society in treatment of nature.
4. INTRODUCTION
‘Ecocriticism’ was coined by William Rueckert in his essay
‘Literature and Ecology: An Experiment in Ecocriticism’ in 1978.
Later in the 1980s, collective work began under this genre by the
efforts of Western Literature Association. It set up ASLE
(Association for the study of Literature and Environment’) at a
Conference in Reno with a motive of "sharing of facts, ideas, and
texts concerning the study of literature and the environment,"
in 1992 .
Cheryll Glotfelty defined Envirocentricism/ ecocriticism in ‘The
Ecocriticism Reader’ (1996) "ecocriticism is the study of the
relationship between literature and the physical environment".
5. HARD TIMES AS ENVIROCENTRIC

agricultural titles “ Sowing,” “Reaping,” and
“Garnering”-ironic
“It was a town of red brick, or of brick that would have been red if the
smoke and ashes had allowed it…

with ill-smelling dye....”
6. WORDSWORTH'S
POEMS
The world is too much with us; late
and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste
our powers:
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a
sordid boon!
Up! up! my friend, and quit your books;
Or surely you’ll grow double:...
Books! ’tis a dull an endless strife:
Come, and hear the woodland linnet,
How sweet his music! on my life,
There’s more of wisdom in it
One impulse from a vernal wood
May teach you more of man,
Of moral evil and of good,
Than all the sages can.
