They spend all their life
on Facebook
Team
leader
with new
graduates
Threatened by their
knowledge of social media
Reviews the code they write
Conducts performance
discussions
Need to teach them discipline
and methodology
Need to keep them
interested and engagedNobody taught them
about testing
Excited to have eager
new crew members
He did not
know that
students
learn
programming
in an arts
degree
The team
leader is not
actually sure
what the
graduates
learned in
school
Should give the same
experience he had 20
years ago
They don’t seem
to have learned
how to work
Empathy Map Problem Statement
• The Team leader (in our IT team)
• Needs a way to understand and leverage the
thinking and new ideas the graduate has learned
at school, in addition to teaching them how to
work in a commercial environment
• Because it seems that we ignore everything they
learned and don’t let them teach us while they
learn from us. In effect we seem to be at risk of
beating their innovation out of them 
