5. Sign-up to Shopify
To start setting up your store, you need to sign-up for an account.
Step 1: Sign-up
Go to Shopify.com, here scroll down to sign-up form. Enter
your entire details and click on “Create your store now”
button.
Step 2: Confirm your details
Afterward, you will be asked for some more details
about you, which include your name, address, and
country and phone number.
You will also be asked if you have products, and what
you'll be selling. If you're just trying out Shopify to see
how it works, you can select I'm just playing around in
the "Do you have products?" menu, and I'm not sure in
the "What will you sell?" menu.
Once you have completed details, click “Enter my store”.
6. Step 3: Log-in to your store
After the sign-up is completed, Shopify will send you a confirmation email letting you know your store is set up.
In the email, you'll be given a link to your store's admin page. This is yourstorename.myshopify.com.
To log in, go to your store's admin page and enter your email address and password.
Once you have logged in, Shopify provides a dashboard that assist you to set-up your storefront.
7. Snazz up your store with a theme
Before adding your products, do some makeover of your store.
Step 1: Browse themes
To browse the themes, go to themes.shopify.com. Here, you get 100+ themes, which includes free themes too. You can
filter the themes by free, paid, by industry or by features.
Step 2: Check the theme details & reviews
Once you find the theme you want, click on sample image of that theme. After that, you can read details about theme
such as whether the theme is responsive, & other theme features. You can also read reviews of theme by scrolling down.
8. Step 3: Get the theme
If you all set to choose the theme, click on “Get theme” button. After clicking, a pop-up appears in which you have to
enter the URL of your store and then click “Publish as my shop’s theme” button. Don't worry if you don't feel 100% sure
it's the right theme for you. You can always change your mind later.
Step 4: Customize your theme
After theme has installed, Shopify will let you know, &will give you option to “Go to your Theme Manager”. Click this.
Your theme manager shows published themes (one you installed or activated recently) and unpublished themes
(previously installed). To customize your theme, such as changing the colors and fonts, click Theme Settings.
9. Add Products
A store isn't a store without goods to sell! Now you're ready to stock your store full with products.
Step 1: Add a product
To add a new product, click “Products” option in left panel, then click on “Add a product” option.
If you have list of your previous products, then you can also import products by clicking on “Import products” option.
Step 2: Insert product details
This is where, your actual work starts. For each product you list, you must add a wide range of information. These include:
• product name
• a product description
• a product image
• the type of product (e.g. surf boards, board games)
• the vendor (i.e. the brand, e.g. Sony)
• price
10. You can also select whether to charge taxes on the produce, whether a shipping address is needed (it's not if you are
selling digital products or services), and the product's weight to calculate shipping.
In addition to this, you can add SEO information for the product, and you can create product collections, which make
it simpler for customers browsing for products to find what they are looking for.
You are also asked for some more advanced product information. This is noncompulsory, but is convenient for
organizing your stock if you plan to sell a broad range of products. This information includes:
• SKU- This is the code you use to track the stock in your inventory.
• Barcode- The scannable lines that refer to your product's data.
• Compare at price- You can use this to show off your low prices compared to your competitors.
Step 3: Save your product
When you have finished entering product details, click the green “Save” button. Your product listing is complete.
11. Launch your store
That's the basics of setting up a Shopify store. You have got a theme and products. All you need to do
now is confirm which payment methods you accept, set your local tax rate, and confirm your shipping
rate. All these can be done in the Store Settings tab, which you open by clicking Settings in the left-
hand menu.
When you want to launch your store to the world, you'll be asked for your credit card details. Shopify
will start billing 14 days after you created your account.
