1. Camera Shots
EWS (Extremely wide shot):
Establishing shot
- Camera is very far from the person/object.
-Allows whole scenery to fit on screen.
(many things are happening at once such as
a war movie, used to show scale of the
action or the amount of damage caused.
VWS (Very wide shot):
- Camera is still far from the person or
object however they can still be seen
slightly. This is because at this point the
camera is still focused on the scenery.
-places the character or object in its
environment.
WS (Wide shot):
-This shot allows the whole body of the
person to be caught on one frame
without having any parts cut off.
MS(Mid shot):
- Half of the person’s body is visible.
-Gives the impression that the audience
is speaking to the character themselves (
when speaking to someone you don’t
usually look at the bottom part of body)
-Used if character doesn’t express any
strong emotions.
ECU (extreme close up):
-This shot provides a very detailed shot of
a part
of the person’s face.
-Used when the character is shows
portraying intense emotions or in a
dramatic scene.
MCU (Medium close up):
- This shot is half way between ECU and
MS. It provides a detailed image of the
characters facial expression and
features.

-This shot is used to show the relationship
between two people.
OSS (Over the shoulder shot):
-This is commonly used in conversations
between two persons. It gives the
audience to put themselves in the other
persons place and feel included in the
conversation.
Noddy shot:
-This shot is cuts of the person listening to
the main character speak to show their
reaction to what is being said.
POV (Point of view shot):
-This is used to allow the audience to see
the scene with the eyes of the character.
Weather shot:
-This shot is focused on the weather it is
used to set the mood of the scene and
prepare the audience for future events
such as a storm in the movie.
3. Different types of cuts
CI (Cut-in):
-This camera shot focuses on another
part of the character.
-Show if character is holding anything.
-Show character’s emotions by the way
the move their hand such as excitement,
anxiety.
CA (Cutaway):
-This shot is used to focus on something
other than the main character. This
could be used to show important
information and foreshadow an event or
to provide a nice transition from one
scene to another.
Jump Cut
-An abstract switch from one scene to
the other.
-Used to speed up the characters
actions.
Match on action
-A cut in which 2 parallel actions are
mirrored to suggest a relationship
between two scenes.
Superimpose (transition)
Split screen

of each other.
Used to:

relationship between scenes.
-Suggest that some time has passed.
-Memory or dream.
