2. “What, are you serious, I have to play
the fairy?” asked Emily Baker, really
excited to be the lead role in her ballet
show.“Yes, Emily, now that Lauren has
hurt her ankle she can’t play Rose, the
fairy, so you are going to take her
place, is that okay with you?” replied
Ms Sarah, her ballet teacher.
3. “Of course, I will play the fairy and be
the best Rose you have ever seen,”
replied Emily. Emily started getting
second thoughts about being the best
Rose and about doing the dance. Emily
had just started ballet a year ago and
had improved a lot. She has long curly
red hair and green eyes. She was a
skinny medium height girl. Now that her
best friend, Lauren, had hurt her ankle
Emily had to be the lead role instead.
4. “Mum, Ms Sarah just called, she said
that Lauren hurt her ankle and won’t be
able to be Rose, she said that I have to
be it,” said Emily excitedly.“Good job,
you must have been great in class these
past few weeks,” exclaimed Emily’s
mum.“OMG, I don’t even know the
steps how am I able to learn them in
one day, what if I forget the steps - I will
ruin the show, everyone will hate me,”
said Emily sadly.
5. “You know you won’t forget the dance
steps, and Ms Sarah did say that you
have a great memory,” said Emily’s
mum.Emily still felt unsure about
herself. She ran in to her room to watch
the video of the dance to learn the
steps. That night at dinner, Emily was
getting more nerves and couldn't hold
her question in any longer. “Mum, if I
mess up with the dance will Ms Sarah
be disappointed in me,” asked Emily,
terrified to hear the answer.“No Emily,
you will not mess up with the dance at
all,” replied Emily’s
6. mum. That night Emily had trouble sleeping,
she was tossing and turning, dreaming about
the dance and was so nerves for tomorrow.
Emily’s mum tried reassuring her but it still
wouldn’t help. “Mum I am so nervous and
scared at the same time, I don’t want to do the
dance,” confessed Emily, she was scared to
death. They were in the car on the way to
Canadian International School of Hong Kong,
the school where the dance was going to take
place at.
7. “Don’t worry, everything’s going to be
fine, by the way I have your costume
here, look at how cute it is,” said her
mum.“OMG, it’s awesome, my favorite
colors,”saidEmily.“Now are you having
second thoughts about the dance,” said
Emily’s mum.The costume was a silky
purple dress with little pink flowers here
and there. There were long purple gloves
that Emily would have to wear too. They
pulled the big brown car in to the car
park.
8. There was a big banner saying “the show
Rose will be held at the LLAC theatre
from 1:00pm until 2:30pm.” “That is in 1
hour, I am so late,” exclaimed Emily.“You
only have to be there at 12:30pm,
remember Rebecca will also be dancing
in the same scene as you,” said her mum.
Rebecca was another girl in Emily’s class.
When she danced she was graceful and
elegant. Emily ran out of the car and
backstage. She saw Ms Sarah helping
another girl with her ballet pirouettes.
9. “Ms Sarah, I’m here, when you are done
helping Nicole with her pirouettes can you
please watch me do the dance and see if I
need help with anything,” asked Emily.
“Sure, I be ready in 5 minutes, I’ll meet you
near Ms Jackie’s desk,” replied Ms Sarah. Ms
Jackie was the lady who owned Point Toes,
the studio where Emily was learning how to
dance, she was also a dancer herself and was
really good too.
10. Even though she doesn’t teach group
lessons she sometimes has private
lessons late at night for adults. While
Emily was walking over to Ms Jackie’s
desk she thought hard to herself. “I can
do this, I can do to this.” Over and over
again. Ms Sarah came over and said
that Emily was great and wouldn’t
have any trouble at all. Emily still
didn’t feel sure. The lights were shining
down on Emily’s face.
11. She was nervous and she was scared,
but at the same time she couldn’t
wait to show the audience what she
really was made of. She could see her
mum in the front row cheering on for
her. She could see the painted stage,
pink and purple flowers. There was
gold trimming on the curtains.
12. Emily was looking through the curtains
ready to go out on stage in just about 2
minutes for the opening scene. Emily
pushed open the curtains and ran on
stage she was jumping and skipping and
doing the dance as perfect as any Rose
could do. The show was over, everyone
was cheering for her. She was handed
roses, camera’s were snapping away
and Emily was smiling and posing
having the time of her life. She had
done a outstanding job - everyone
thought so. Especially Emily.
