    • Definitions and statistics  Target group of the project: non-EU foreign born women (outside EU-27)  Statistics: approximately half of 1.8 million of non-EU foreign born immigrants in Europe (2009)  Reasons for migration: Family migration – about 52 % Employment (with job settled before migration) – 2 % Employment (without job settled before migration) – 23 % International protection – 9 % Study – 6 % Other – 8 %
    • Main trends regarding education and employment of immigrant women in Europe For high-educated women: Deskilling and overqualification For low-educated women: High undemployment and lack of labour market opportunities and educational possibilities For

    • Low-educated immigrant women (EU:2009) More 77 mln. of people in EU are low-skilled. Immigrant women are highly represented among them Main reasons are war, lack of well-functioning educational system in countries of origin and other Employment rate of immigrant women is 16.5 % lower then women of EU nationality Consequences: social isolation and segregation
