3. WHAT IS AN “ESPLAI”?
It is a club where retirees and senior people go to
have fun, meet new people and do a lot of different
activities.
There are two “Esplais” in Ciutadella that were
established thirty-three years ago.
5. HOW MANY PEOPLE GO THERE?
It has a board of seven people
and there are 2.000 people
who participate in the
programmed activities.
6. WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE DONE?
Some of the activities that are done are:
Cycling
Taichi and ioga
I.T.
Ballroom dancing
Choir and guitar
Theatre
Memory workshop
Painting shop

What activities do you like best?
The activities I like best are ballroom dancing,taichi and ioga,cycling,
and hiking.
When do you start coming to the “Esplai”?
We start coming fourteen years ago and since then,we come everyday.
Do you enjoy coming?
I love it!We have a lot of fun,we laugh a lot and we are really proud of
the institution.
Why did you decide to come?
Because we wanted to have company,have fun,dance,play cards.
9. Santa Rita is a nursing home.There are almost 105
users. 90 of them are staying there everyday and 15 of
them only stay there during the day.
10. There are 80 people
working as doctors, social
workers, physiotherapists,
responsibles for
maintenance or hostelers
who take charge of hygiene
and food.
11. Two people coordinate the activities and all the
center.There is an absolute control over the
hospitalized people.
12. Twice a week, they go on
excursion.There is a little
swimming pool where
rehabilitation exercices are
done.
There are special menus for
diabetes, diarrhea and others.
