3. The Digipack is something which I wanted to
have a lot of focus on the Artist. I thought this
pictures was appropriate for our front cover as it
is not only drawing attention to the artist but also
giving the audience an indication of what music
genre the album is.
Having the image of the Artist on the front we thought would be a good selling point
when the album is marketed as when an audience are familiar with an artist they will be
more likely to engage with the digipack as they know what to expect. Something else
that I considered when making my digipack was how much the cover revealed to the
audience; we wanted our audience to be intrigued by the front cover and to be left
questioning what the song is about, this is revealed more clearly within the digipack.
The idea that the bands name is written on the guitar was done to again draw attention
to the guitar, this is an instrument which would feature in all of the bands music and so it
was done to encourage the same audience to be interested in the album.
4. The Back cover was something which I felt was important to link in with the front cover;
again the cover is focusing on the Artist himself but still due to the lighting we chose to
use is not giving the audience a fully focused image of his face leaving the audience with
still that feeling of mystery.
The album is just focusing on the one song that we created a music video for and
therefore we thought adding a live addition would maybe engage with the target audience
more as live concerts and festivals are things which the teenage, indie audience will be
interested in. I thought that keeping the digipack as a whole quite simple would be quite
intriguing for the audience and draw more focus to the song and the artist and therefore
having a simple picture of the artist I felt was appropriate.
When creating the digipack, the font was an aspect which I felt
should be important. I wanted the font to link throughout the
digipack and also with the magazine article. The font used to
advertise the song is the same throughout and the font
advertising the band is again the same throughout- this I felt
would then become something which the audience will
become familiar with and look out for.
5. The idea of the inside covers is that it is the first time the
audience will understand more about what the song has to offer.
The title of the song is ‘Dirty Talk’ and therefore I felt having a pair
of lips symbolises talking and the idea that they are glossy and
pink shows the cheeky and dirty side to the artist which is what
the song is about. Pink/red lips which are slightly open have
sexual connotations and this was in keeping with the theme of the
song. The inspiration for the glossy lips was from a Wild Cherry
album which also aimed to represent sexual connotations.
The CD is something which I felt should be in keeping with the
digipack and show a definite link so in doing this we came up with
the idea of linking the lips image and this is where the CD will sit
inside the case. We wanted to have the Title of the song on the
CD to again make the song memorable and chose to use the font
that we had advertising the band name on the front cover so it
would remind the band of who the song is by.
6. This is the other inside cover of the digipack;
something which is a convection of the indie genre is
having a side which has lots of little pictures linked
with the song or the band; we chose to go along with
this convection as we thought it provided the audience
with more of an understanding of the artist.
The pictures on this cover are from the artist performances and also the rehearsals for
his performances and so they are used to try and build up more of a personal
relationship with the audience. The pictures also link with the front and back cover due to
the setting and costume that the artist is in. I thought it would be a good idea to use the
same location as it is something which then become familiar with the audience and so if
they were not watching the music video and just listening to the song they would be able
to create the image for themselves. The costume is something which runs throughout
the music video, digipak and magazine article but I thought it was important to keep the
same costume throughout the digipak so the whole digipak linked better together.
